actually uh
no
It seems to me that people are mostly angry for the right reasons.
It's far too early for a reboot. It doesn't need one.
But I'm willing to give it a shot, it looks pretty enough and Garfield looks like my idea of Parker. The 3D could be a problem but it's a tool that could be used either awfully or brilliantly. I like EVERYTHING else I have heard. Call me crazy but I like it. It reminds me of the old cartoons where he built his own web shooters and went to high school and all that.
[editline]16th January 2011[/editline]
I don't want the reboot to touch Goblin, Ock or Sandman yet. Those were all done pretty well before.
Let's focus on making a good Lizard, Vulture and Venom.
[editline]16th January 2011[/editline]
It would be interesting to see if they try to make this the Batman Begins of the spiderman series. Give spidy web shooters and limited powers. Touches of realism. I know people will scream "YOU DON'T NEED TO RIP OF BATMAN TO MAKE A GOOD SUPERHERO MOVIE" which is true, but it would a really fucking interesting way to portray the spiderman universe.

The fuck are you on about with Goblin?
He was done horribly.
Does this

The goblin was done fine. The movie was made to appeal to more than fans of the comic, casual movie goers would have found the traditional goblin hard to take seriously.
Holy shit, I remember seeing the original in theaters like it was yesterday, and now their remaking it?
I feel old

Fine, the costume was inferior but Willem Dafoe was incredible.
I grew up on spiderman.
That is NOT spiderman.
Toby is spiderman.
More like Midgetman.

Emotional is fully the word, not just emo-cut arm emo.
So it's gonna be a darker version of Spidey. He'll properly kill off criminals and villains in this one rather then in the originals. But properly not for normal criminals. Who knows what this new guy will be like.
1 was alright, 2 was great, 3 was horrendous

2 is one of the best super hero films I've ever seen. Even though the fusion = sun thing was really stupid. But, eh, radioactive spiders.

He probably won't and if he does, that's stupid.
Well in the other spiderman original, Parker did kill a guy who was Sandman's partner.
I don't get all the hate for Toby, I thought he was a pretty good spiderman, not counting part 3 of course, I guess its just because I grew up on the movies.
The suit looks pretty good.

No he didn't, that guy got spooked and fell.

I was already older when those movies came out and I still thought he was good. He was fine in 3, it's just 3 sucked overall.

It would be difficult to take a villain seriously if they were 100% real to their comic book counter parts. Green Goblin is Spider-Man was done okay (although looks a bit like a Power Ranger suit). It was translated and received well on the silver screen. Doc Ock, too. Rather than his green and yellow jumpsuit and goggles (or radiation suit, as it resembles) he's given a trench that can easily conceil his tentacles. Now, Green Goblin 2.0 or Harry Osborne is where it went wrong, in terms of comic-book faithfulness. Personally, I thought it look cool, but it was overall out of place and not really what one would expect from Green Golbin's successor.
However, you can't give all credit of a supervillain to just the costume. The actor is what makes it too. Willem Dafoe was brilliant as The Goblin, despite it's occassional goofiness. Alfred Molina portrayed Octavious brilliant as well. Thomas Hayden Church was good as Sandman.
I'm going to stop there because I think I'm rambling now.

Or this:

Nope. At least Green Goblin looked somewhat like a goblin. The change was made so that he had more of a flightsuit and helmet instead of just some tights, since flying around at high altitudes at high speeds in tights and a halloween mask probably wouldn't work too well.

fyi the director of this movie's previous film was a light-hearted romance. I don't really have anything more to go off of but I think it's safe to assume this isn't going to be very dark at all. Why else would this director have been chosen to take this on?

How does a director's previous work determine the style he/she will implement with a new movie?
Yeah, that's exactly what I was saying :downs:
What I was pointing out was that my earlier comment that they were targeting older audiences was completely null and void due to the fact that they're jumping on the 3D bandwagon to appeal to the only people who actually like that stupid shit - i.e. younger audiences.
I haven't met anyone over the age of 12 who actually likes that stuff.
3D is only really used to reel people in to see the film, a friend of mine is a victim of this, she went and seen The Last Airbender in 3D and claimed it was good. It resulted in me raging over how terrible it was.
Does anyone have any information about the storyline or anything?
The lanky Garfield and change in costume makes me think that they'll switch gears to the Ultimate Universe, making Peter Parker going through high school all over again.
I'd like for them to continue from the last movie, and add Carnage and the Lizard into the mix, but that's just me. I haven't done much research on the movie, but does anyone have any ideas of which direction the film is going?

Looks like they will use the Ultimate universe as a base indeed. Which probably means there will be the symbiote because the whole universe is based on it.
I just hope they won't fuck this up as it is a gritty reboot. In spiderman 3 they already fucked it up with spidey becoming an emo so if they take the same scenarist, prepare to get pissed.
Eitherway, getting back to the old mechanical web shooters probably indicates the same approach as batman begins - making the character looks realistic, with realistic gear and shit.
How does a director's previous work determine the style he/she will implement with a new movie?
because a directors previous work is what the producers look at when trying to determine who they think is best suited to direct their film. It's not conclusive granted, but it still could give you an idea of what to expect
Well, this is being filmed with 3D equipment.
looks sexy. :3:
I know pretty much nothing about Spiderman, but I always thought the web shooting thing was the only power he got from the spider bite. If he has mechanical web shooters, what powers does he actually have?
fyi it's been confirmed to be mechanical shooters now.

Strength and spider-sense.
Consult an expert for anything else. :v:
Personally, I never liked the idea of mechanical web-shooters because that only adds to the improbability of Peter Parker. Not only does he create some elaborate durable costume in his bedroom, but he also makes an extremely durable and ingenious device and chemical compound? I have a harder time swallowing that than "mutant powers give me web abilities". But that's just me.
