I think most people in the US have Comcast, which is what my family has. We pay about $100/month for 500ish channels, phone, and high-speed Internet. Most of the channels are porn, movies, or HD versions of the normal channels, though, and most require additional charges.
Comcast is pretty good and you can usually get free shit from them if you yell at them on the phone loud enough.
I thought Comcast had terrible internet? I use a local company and it's cheap and has 24/7 live local service. I think for a full 500 channel package it's like $120 a month.
Five minutes of the show you are watching followed by twenty minutes of commercials.
You pay a TV license fee, so it's not free.
Almost free.
I really enjoy TV in the UK

Pretty much this

Yeah Sky Plus HD ftw.
Around 900 channels with instant rewind and record <3
In the UK, we get around 50-60 channels free, and around 800-900 with subscription, the price can range around £15-30 a month or so, depends if you have HD channels or not, I don't think that makes much difference though.
Cable tv here = no commercials other than those advertising upcoming movies on paid channels and porn is included after 11.59 PM.
we get free satellite TV, thank you working at a electronics store bonuses.
also free internet(and it's not really that bad speed either)
It's PURE FUCKING SHIT.
People still watch TV?
Get comcast.
Its about $30 for 200 channels for me, it was part of a $99 dollar package offered in my area by AT&T that included internet and phone service.
But damn, people bitch about living in the US all the time, poor Australians.
Well we have tons of providers. I used Dish Network with DVR and Free HD with Two receivers (Allows up to four tv's to use them) and it's around 45-55$ a month. The channel choices are great too.
I'm damn near morally opposed to cable television. Originally, the idea for paying for television would have been ludicrous when it didn't exist and people relied on free public access channels.
Cable introduced a unique selling proposition because by paying for cable you could eliminate the commercializing of your viewing time. That quickly went out the window when cable providers began to get greedy. When it comes to marginalizing the consumer, only wireless providers are worse.
I say abandon cable altogether. You just don't need it. Invest cable costs in maintaining a fast internet connection and you'll have everything you need! Especially with the ability to seamlessly connect your PC/laptob to any HDTV. Cable is a dying industry and I say good riddance. LONG LIVE THE INTERNET!
cable TV in the US sucks. nothing good on unless your looking for something exactly.
satellite is where its at
commercials every 4-7 minutes and fox spewing bullshit.
satellite is fucking terrible.
Dish network sucks hairy balls

My internet comes with cable.
Shaw cable rocks the shit.
Isn't Dish Network like $40 USD month and Direct TV and Cable are around $70?

Except everyone knows the communication companies are working round the clock to try and force the Internet into the same cable business model. They have the money and the people, it 's only a matter of time.
Wow, that channel selection would cost like $20-$30 in the US. Sucks to be Australian.
For that money your getting nothing compared to US networks. For 100USD a month (This is a TV, Internet, and Phone bundle) I get almost all of these channels.
Dang, I wish I got to this thread earlier so I could say "inb4 angsty kids who say that everything on tv sucks"

I don't like cable either, or TV for that matter. Everything on TV sucks. But to be fair, it's the individual channels that are running the commercials and they're the ones getting the revenue from it.
The cable company isn't getting any of that ad money.
It's amazing, I love watching 10 minutes of commercials and 5 minutes of a TV show.
I can only stand 2 channels. USA Network and Discovery Channel.
