Ah what the fuck, I'm jealous. Good for you, i hope you get paid or something. Seriously, this is my dream. On another topic, anyone saw this? looks fun but lel the period mixing
Well some of it is gonna take place in Sweden and we have to get around 400 people for fighting. So I'm sure there would be an open spot for you :v: But yeah. We will get paid for the stuff we help with. I'll probably end up instructing in combat on foot and participate in the fights. [editline]30th March 2016[/editline] Also that videogame looks just like Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Chivalry. What happened to Kingdom Come: Deliverance anyway? I remember it looking really interesting but the devs have been quiet for a while.
No, they're active. Beta released, with combat. Combat isn't really all that historical... Do you have to provide your own gear or will they? I'd love to participate :v

I'd love to participate :v
How dissapointing. The main thing that interested me about it was the way combat looked in the initial trailers. I have no idea. I think at least some of it will be supplied, but dont hang me up on it. There is still a long way to go.
I mean, I don't know, it's obvious they based it on manuals, but then yo ustill have the fact that you can strike with swords through plate etc..it's just not very realistic.

No half-swording or reverse grip? I mean, it must be because of balancing the gameplay out that the swords can strike against foes wearing plate, but it's a bummer. I'd rather have to carry a mace as a back-up weapon if need be.

Would anyone know any good resources for purchasing some plate armor? I'm looking upgrade my chainmail kit with some plated stuff. Only sites I can find are medieval collectible shit, and I've heard they're...less than spectacular. Note: My group isn't as hardcore, so it doesn't have to be spectacular quality.
what's your budget and what will you be using it for?
Budget is negotiable, but I'm aiming for less than $500. I fight in Dagorhir, which is full contact with padded weapons. I mostly want it to add weight to my body for body-checks, shield-bashing, and line-holding. Good looks are nice, too. Edit: Oh shit, I forgot about this little tidbit. with budget around 500 dollars or less, the armour you could buy are generally going be either medieval collectibles or average quality SCA/BOTN armour. they generally won't be like the historical pieces but i guess it doesn't matter since you're not using it for historical reenactment or something. here's a list of armourers: http://www.bujansarmoury.com/shop/ https://squareup.com/store/west-coast-armoury https://armstreet.com/ http://deepeeka.in/ (note: while these guys do sell "medieval" armour, they are generally more well known for their roman and greek stuff) http://www.illusionarmoring.com/ (note: i have some bad things about how slow they are, with some orders taking several months or longer. still they do have a good price) if you still can't find what you want or you want to see a wider selection, it might be a good idea to come by this site. it's pretty much a forum filled with armourers and it's easy to get into touch with them directly.
I feel that Sword & Buckler is so much more intense than longsword fencing. Granted, I do prefer and feel more comfortable with longswords. Also began using spears again, shit's tense.
https://www.etsy.com/se-en/listing/271063762/munitions-grade-singlehander?ref=unav_listing-same speaking of one-handers, found a guy selling them for literally nothing.
I just finished sewing a landsknecht doublet recently, it's hard to make it tight without constricting your movement. Gonna make some historical 16th century hotpants soon, because the concept is too hilarious to pass up [t]http://orig13.deviantart.net/3d85/f/2016/054/6/b/landsknecht_wams_by_captain_asparagus-d9svbt9.png[/t]
Actually, since you're making this, can I assume you're going to the medieval week in Gotland?
Actually, since you're making this, can I assume you're going to the medieval week in Gotland?
Not this year, sorry. :v:
Not this year, sorry. :v:
Ah, shame. Well, great work on your costume. Maybe some other time!

He can roll the tip for no extra cost, just make sure you ask for it. [editline]9th May 2016[/editline] Also sudden words coming from "I sparred with steel blunt spears without gorgets and almost crushed my windpipe" :P

[editline]9th May 2016[/editline] Also sudden words coming from "I sparred with steel blunt spears without gorgets and almost crushed my windpipe" :P
Well obvously I've learned from it right? And it wasn't my neck that was in danger, but my collarbone (so glad it didn't break or anything else serious happened. I already have enough problems with my shoulders)
Well, good for you. At any rate, I will buy a sword like that. The price is too good to pass up on, imo, and it seems some customising can be done without any real price hike.
I will definetly agree that it is a good offer, but what is the quality of the sword? Do you know anyone that has bought one of those swords before? You should also get yourself a buckler so we can do some bouts with sword & buckler whenever we meet again. [editline]9th May 2016[/editline] I also just noticed that they sell Messers. Interesting. [editline]9th May 2016[/editline] Did you see any of our Arming/Side swords at Swordfish, Strogg?
I didn't, messed that up. I do believe this sword can be of good quality as long as he doesn't straight up lie. Since the production is in Hungary some of the cheapness makes sense, plus the fact he spends no time polishing it, uses mild steel in the hilt details, and also the handle is plywood (lol). I don't expect it to last forever but for an entry level sword it has to be good. Like at that price, even if its bad its good. Synthetic one handers go for the same price! [editline]10th May 2016[/editline]
16th century best century. nah don't have any pictures of the suit yet since i just started on it lol. nothing more than a few calico pieces of the doublet right now.
Also skipped past this before, nice that you're doing a suit like that kimchimafia, i was thinking of having something similar made for the medieval week in gotland. Was gonna base it sort of from the Meyer manual, like these guys:
nice, the clothes in joachim meyer's treatise look great. the style should only be around one or two decades behind before the style i'm going for. also gonna have 4th century roman clothes as well as sort of backup garb and "persona" for the sca. [editline]9th May 2016[/editline] are you making it or are have you made it for you?

It's so extremely well balanced, which is where my concern is with this sword. We do not know how well balanced it is. Granted, they will alter it to your specifications, but there is only so much that can be done about the point of balance if it's all wrong. With that pricetag it is however worth taking the chance.

[editline]10th May 2016[/editline] And honestly kimchi, i might actually myself go for a bit later suit since im not a big fan of the codpiece, but it was already toned down during the time meyer made that treatise...we'll see.

yeah, thank god for that. So at any rate, i will get a very discreet one or none at all...but I'll post pictures of the costume when I get it.
