Jokes on you, I have already seen it!
Foiled again!
So a couple of weeks ago my locally made gambison finally arrived! Plastic up to the elbows, and for some reason a patch on the chest for protection against stabbing I guess. The lighting is pretty yellow in this shot, makes it look kinda worn out when it isn't in person. [t]http://i.imgur.com/2nv0U6L.jpg[/t] I'm very excited to have it because I haven't been able to properly spar in months due to the situation at the club making loaning out gambisons a rare occurrence.
welcome back reds
Posting here was a top priority upon getting unbanned. The place could stand to be a bit livelier. I got banned just as I was getting into HEMA, it's been a fun journey, particularly after I started working with metal. Waaaay more fun than synthetics. My club buying some Black Fencer wasters that are much heavier than the ones we were using before helped quite a lot compared to the light and floppy synthetics we were using originally, but metal is still the best. In other good news, my Regenyei order should be finished in the near future, so that's one more thing to look forward to because I'll finally have all of my equipment together after that.. Both things that I thought wouldn't be done before the heat death of the universe are suddenly happening.

What are you gonna use it for? And how many N can it take?
It looks rather thin. What are you gonna use it for? And how many N can it take?
It's reasonably thick, I think anyway. I have a pretty limited pool of gambisons to compare it to, sorry. It looks a bit deflated when it's not worn. I'll just be using it for general purpose stuff, mostly steel longsword. No idea how many N it can take.

My club just got a shitload of Polish/Hungarian Cavalry Sabers in through the door. Fun is going to be had. We also got some Sideswords/Bolognese Swords and Dossacks!
so how do you guys like hitting each other with pointy metal sticks? IT seems rather interesting for me, and I'd like to try it out.
It's an incredibly fun martial art. You'll also be surprised how hard it is to use a sword properly. If there is a club near you, you should definetly go and try it out! [editline]25th May 2016[/editline] They're not really pointy though. Usually the steel swords have a folded tip to reduce the risk of injury.
Oh neat, I didn't realise we had a thread for HEMA stuff. Anyone had experience with claymores? I'm looking to get a couple, English/Italian and a waster What's the weight and feel like compared to a longsword?
I've never tried a Claymore myself, since there is no competitions involving them/I have no interest in them, but from historical findings and reproductions the length and weight is very close to eachother, with the claymore being just a tiny bit longer and heavier. Then again, the weight also comes down to the type of longsword, since they can weigh between 1,2-1,8kg. Heck, my own longsword weighs in at 1,9kg. But I don't mind, getting used to a heavier swords makes the typical competition feders feel that more lighter. And yeah, this thread has been here for a while, but Facepunch is not ful of martial art enthusiasts, even less who are interested in HEMA, which means the thread often disappears from the frontpage.

Do you mean like the actual baskethilts or the more large scottish swords? At any rate, such claymores are definitely heavier than longswords.
I never realized how much of a workout swinging my trainer swords around were until we had a crew wide arm-wrestling competition. SWORD ARMS ARE STRONK.
I never realized how much of a workout swinging my trainer swords around were until we had a crew wide arm-wrestling competition. SWORD ARMS ARE STRONK.
Should build forearm muscles. Who do you train with?
Mostly spar with a buddy and work through maneuvers on my own with a target. Sadly I live out in the middle of nowhere in PA so there's not a large selection of people to practice with. As such I've put together a mixture of the Meyer school of longsword fighting, and what bits of fencing I know.
Is there anywhere decent chain mail can be had for a not-insane sum? I found my bastard sword in the closet and got it in my head to put together a period outfit to go with it. I don't really know what all I'll need, but I figured chain mail would be a good start. [t]http://i.imgur.com/h8JY0t8.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/XanNgel.jpg[/t] e; chain mail sounds like a pain in the ass, scratch that. :v: I'll just go with a gambeson and maybe plate armor over that.
You can get whole suits of armor usable for jousting in India for no money at all. If you're unsure about the quality of the armor, I'd suggest you try snooping around on the internet until you find some someone that can make it for you/sells it.

Hit me up if you ever want to discuss any specific sequences! Related: This week we were at the Stockholm historical museum discussing our work a bit: And on tuesday we will be holding a similar seminar for researchers from the Stockholm University medieval department.
Finally, my/the club's Regenyei order should come in in in the next month or two. Wed have them sooner but apparently Regenyei claimed that the order wasn't confirmed despite the guy handling the order sending "multiple emails saying to confirm several times in each". I wasn't expecting to see it until August or later, so this is great news.

His swords are great, I will give him that. But his rockstar attitude is getting the better of him.
Well, when you're sponsored on every event ever... Thank god for Pavel Moc though.
Yeah. Prime example of fame getting into someones head. SPES have some nice feders as well. I actually prefer them over Regenyeis.
Spes doesn't sell feders as far as I remember...
Are you sure? They were selling Feders at Swordfish.
I want this so bad https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2136975411/in-search-of-hannibal-a-graphic-novel [t]http://i.imgur.com/AVALyzi.jpg[/t] Not enough good entertainment when it comes to depicting antiquity. A historical graphic novel will easily to sate my appetite.
Are you sure? They were selling Feders at Swordfish.
I'm 100% certain that was PBT....and they buy feders from Regenyei. So only regenyei feders at swordfish. If SPES were there with feders I think they were regenyeis too, or Moc's, or someone elses. They dont put up feder products on their homepage.

We already have one of the feders I'm talking about, I can send you a picture of it during our next HEMA session. All I know for certain is that it's made by a Polish guy.
Well, Regenyei is hungarian. Polish would be Berbekucz most likely. or that Szymon guy.
