The difference between Edinburgh and Glasgow is that if you hear a gun going off in Edinburgh you know it's 1 o'clock.

I love the 3rd and 4th images, the colours are great. Are you using film? Because they look like they came off a lomo camera?
Oh, thanks! Yeah, it's a film camera, but to be honest I don't know much about it- I just found it.
Well, here we go.
Since i'm quite new here, and new to dslr photography I need some feedback on a couple of shots http://www.flickr.com/photos/gotnoodles/
Help me learn and I won't disappoint :V
Going to be taking more photos soon. Had a pretty busy weekend, moments of it were screaming Where is your camera, oh well.
I'm using a Canon 400D with an Ef-s 18-55mm lens.
230/365 - went to check out some new locations now that it's warming up a bit. As Jaanus would say, nothing imaginative, just my brother doing whatever in front of the camera.

I have said it many times before, albeit not to you: Every new photographer starts with pictures like yours. The standard close-up of everything. That's ok, because we have to learn. The problem with these is that they just aren't interesting. Let's take this situation: You are in a gallery and your pictures are displayed there, though in this example they aren't yours. How would you feel about them. Would you think they are beautiful? Would you find them interesting?
The best way to get better in photography is to read up on it and just take lots and lots of pictures.

Try to shoot earlier in the day, you're getting a yellow-orange cast. It helps if it's overcast, your light looks too hard. Try backing up a bit too, the head-shots seem awkwardly composed - it's a face with blurred mess behind it. Try to capture more of the scene. And if it's supposed to be a close up, try to balance out the subject with the frame, it doesn't have to be centered, just go for an even distance between the subject and the borders. An example is this one, his head is too much closer to the bottom than the top.

I really like the "washed out" look, I dunno. I am trying some new processing effects. I really hate having so much variety but change is a necessity to get better I guess.
I really like the second and first. Second is my favorite because the awesome hair whip thing.
Hey guys. I just started a photomedia course for digital photography at my uni and I'm 2 weeks into it. During that time I've developed a semi-basic knowledge of shutter speeds, aperture and ISO and suchlike, also with much help from the tutorials here. Anyway, problem is, I'm still somewhat shit at taking photos, haha.
Here are a few:

What I'm looking for is some constructive criticism basically. If there's anything specific you guys would be able to point out for me to learn that'd be just fantastic. I'll keep posting in the thread but at the moment I just really want to improve, thanks :buddy:
I may have had a few beers and it's pretty early in the morning, so forgive me if my writing seems a bit 'off'. Anyways, something to remember about black and white is that it depends heavily on contrast. Take this image for example;
[img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5053/5525215173_d8f4be706b.jpg[/img_thumb]
It's very 'flat' looking. You can really bring out the contrast with some simple processing. This is easy to fuck up though, it's just a matter of getting used to what looks right. I'm no expert on black and white, and I used a preset, but this shows how much of a change can be made.
[img_thumb]http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/1554/beforeafter2h.jpg[/img_thumb]
[img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5057/5525211781_38562b94e4.jpg[/img_thumb]
[img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5295/5525803890_29b78bf3bd.jpg[/img_thumb]
In the first image, you need to work on framing. First off, there is too much negative space, there is a big white blob taking up half the image, it isn't aesthetically appealing. Second, the first few posts have their tops cut off, you need to frame it a little higher so the tops of all the posts can be seen. You could have had the top of the fence in the middle or lower and it would have looked 10 times better. I tried to find an image that looks like what I'm trying to say.
The second image; again it's the framing. The subject is too close to one side of the frame which makes the whole picture look unbalanced. Also, the tips of the outer leaves are cut off, which presents a similar unattractive aesthetic like the fence. This kind of framing leaves the viewer feeling cramped or cut out. It has a similar look to having a persons face cropped so you can't see the whole thing.

I hope that offers some perspective.
I'll keep posting in the thread but at the moment I just really want to improve, thanks :buddy:
The thread is less of a gallery and more of a 'workshop', there is no standard of quality required to post.
