Thought I'd get in on this floating shit craze. Didn't quite work well because of the contours when he lays there, but oh well, I can check this off my list of things to do with a camera. See...I'm just wondering how you get the shadow underneath.
Could I get some C&C on this portrait I took the other day: Taran in the tube by Isaac Brownbridge, on Flickr
Could I get some C&C on this portrait I took the other day
I like it, but I feel like if the background were less cluttered it could be better. Unless you were going for that, not sure
See...I'm just wondering how you get the shadow underneath.
Took the brush tool, set the color to black, drew a line that kinda bent where a natural shadow would bend, applied a heavy Gaussian blur to it, adjusted the opacity and there you have it :) But the supposed way to get real looking shadows is to have an object cast the shadow for you, but with my dad and that shot it was kinda impossible.

I don't know if that was done in post or not though.
Looks a bit soft/flare-y around the edges of the hands. I don't know if that was done in post or not though.
I was trying to make a bit of a soft look, though I probably overdid the noise reduction in lightroom as my 1000d is horrible at 800ISO.
See...I'm just wondering how you get the shadow underneath.

This was a little rushed, so it could have been better. Basically you take a picture of the subjectless scene, then take a picture with something over where the subject would be to create a realistic shadow. If you're floating a person you need to get creative and make something that sorta looks like a person to caste a natural shadow. After that, you merge them together. Take your time and make it look good, I did it quickly for this tutorial. After that, take the picture of the subject being supported. Merge this into the 'shadow' shot we made a few seconds ago. Bam. [img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5253/5536918532_4830018163_z.jpg[/img_thumb]
That costs money
Mine cost £13.
What was your setup on that shot?
I used a 50mm 1.4 and a 500D.

(and don't say subject haha)
Mine cost £13.
Where? If you don't mind me asking.
Add even more shadows
Where? If you don't mind me asking.
ebay. it's an old manual focus lens from the USSR with an M42 adapter
Just stick m42 into eBay and you'll find loads. I picked up a 35/2.8 for £30. The build quality of old lenses is really nice, usually all metal with an insanely smooth focus ring with a long throw.
i'm starting to really hate my shots, something needs to change. (and don't say subject haha)
WELL, from what I have seen over the last few weeks, you're gradually over emphasising your processing, and it's becoming borderline PP sexual assault. What happened to that new processing style you posted a while ago? I think if you used that, and possibly a change in location you could get some interesting shots. In my personal opinion I think you're just stuck doing the same thing over and over.
borderline PP sexual assault.
:v: Thanks for the feedback. yeah I have trouble finding a balance, people told me it was too subtle, so I ramped it up, guess I've gone too far. As for repetition, after 236 days straight it's hard to come up with something new every single day. Excuses, excuses though. How's this? As for repetition, after 236 days straight it's hard to come up with something new every single day. Excuses, excuses though. How's this?
I like this a lot, much easier on the eyes and gives it a little more depth. As for coming up with something new, perhaps you could try something without people in it? I liked what you did with the dog shot on your medium format business.
What happened to that new processing style you posted a while ago?
Yeah, it was a little too intense (in a Tumblr-y way), but it had color. All these new images are getting washed out to the point of being harsh.
I really need a camera.
I really need a camera.
Yeah, that and taking photos kind of go hand in hand.
Yeah, that and taking photos kind of go hand in hand.
heh, I don't have any money for a camera
buy an old film camera, work your way from there
buy an old film camera, work your way from there
any suggestions?
