Just testing out this here camera some more, trying to just go through everything, see what I can pull out with no outside editing. I did edit one photo though, because I want to try this "split tone" thingy I see here.
I feel bad saying this.. but these are simple 'I just got my first camera' shots. The coke cans are out of focus, the flash has washed out the first. The bacardi lid may have been nice had the flash not been blocked off at the bottom. The amp is.... an amp?
What one was split toned, I don't see any?

Why should you feel bad saying this? They are exactly that. Im just trying to get to know the camera really.
Anyone interested in an unpaid photography writing job on my active tech blog?

Haha I just hate giving the criticism part of CC.
Trying to get into photography using my mom's camera. The unfortunate thing is, her camera is a single lens. Should I buy my own (was thinking D3000 or Rebel xs)? Oh and critique please!
Flickr friended you :)
That makes you a bad critic then!!!!!!
Im not bothered if you rip my balls out about them sheesh, I'm not gonna lash out and go, "WEll Uh YEah bIUT UR A PopOOp head!!!"
I'll go take some real photos when the weather isn't blowing rain
if it helps the CC I'm not sure if it'll help or make me sound really stupid, but it just bothers me a lot on this camera that the higher the ISO, the more noise comes and if you use the built in noise filter you loose a lot of detail.
Maybe it's just me, thinking that editing photos to improve them seems like cheating. Iunno.
anyone in the london area want to go take some photos or something?

I like what you did with the second picture though.
Good work. Keep it up.

I like the way that the road extends off into the back of the frame, getting further out of focues as it goes. I think that the people to the right of the shot are an unnecessary distraction and if you were to do it again i would take a few steps to your left to get them out of the shot or wait until they aren't there (not practical for this kind of candid shot). I like the fairly sharp colour contrast between the overwhelming cool colours of the image with a seemingly out of place warm yellow car, I think it works really well!
might scroll up and give some more feedback...

as others have said, stop abusing your flash and get outside! I found that for the first few weeks of being into photography I thought taking photos of the shit on my desk was cool, it's not. according to your last.fm page you live in Iceland, get the hell out of your house and start taking photos of the amazing landscapes! just because you see it everyday on your way to school/the shops/work/whatever and it seems mundane to you doesn't mean that it wont look incredibly interesting to me!
tl;dr get outside and take photos of the incredible world around you!

oh and another thing that I wanted to say, kit lenses really aren't as bad as gear wankers make them out to be, run a bit of light sharpening and a bit of chromatic aberation removal and you will have some mighty fine looking photos! To all the people that go "I want to do photographer but all I have is my mothers point and shoot" stop using that as an excuse. The best camera is the camera that you have with you! the average modern point and shoot has 10 megapixels, which should look fairly sharp when resized down to 640x400, blaming your hardware is just an easy way out.

I love the contrast and saturated colour in this image. You really seem to have made the most of your available light which I love, I really don't like flash (unless your doing studio / controlled work with massive softboxes)

I like what you've attempted here, with the lens flaring on the left (presuming that it's on purpose), saying that, I think that because your front element / filters has finger prints on it (I think) it's come out pretty messy and ugly. the composition of your image is interesting however I think that harsh sunlight in the foreground with shade in the background doesn't look as good as it could, the harsh difference in exposure makes the image a bit too harsh to look at, I think that if you used some HDR on it (even combining multiple layers at different exposures in photoshop) could help out your image.
[img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5298/5400147061_c4455cfc60.jpg[/img_thumb]

wow that water is clear. I think that having a reflection is ok, but if you had both the tree and the reflection in the shot I think that would make your image great! you may not have been able to get wide enough however to capture the massive field of ciew that I'm presuming the tree to the reflection would take up.
[img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5020/5400746928_94fb73296a.jpg[/img_thumb]

I think that this image is underexposed a tad. One large issue with this image for me is that what seems to be the subject (the orange flowers) isn't in focus, while a second, less interesting subject (the tree w/ vines) is in sharp focus. I think that your composition, etc is fine but those flowers really need to be sharp. If the tree is in fact the subject then I think you need to get the flowers out of there completely, they draw to much attention to themselves.

STOP BASHING KIT LENSES.
now, to your photos:
1. I don't really like these "posed" portraits and your popup flash really killed it. try resting your camera on a jacket and get the shot from purely natural light, the tones would look incredible.
2. I LOVE THIS PHOTO. The street photographer in me sees this and screams with joy. street photography can be about seeing what other people don't, the mundane from an interesting angle , and I think you have captured that here. the side of the daycare centre(?) should be a warm, inviting place but instead it is very cold and uninviting.
I think I just went all english teacher and added more meaning to your photo than when you took it :v:

Thanks, man. I know that I shouldn't have been using the flash, but it was getting quite dark, and I couldn't get the exposure just right.

I'm probably not the best example, but all the pictures I've been posting are from a Canon Powershot G2. Which is a pretty old camera.
