I tried making a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 lens avatar but I think it came out rather boring: I suck at this :<
- Use rule of thirds.
he did. if the shots look bad because of some relation to the rule of thirds, then it's just additional evidence that the "rule" is complete and utter shit.
Jumping on the bandwagon for avatars. [editline]30th January 2011[/editline] It's the lens on my g2.
Went out with the kit lens, and I REALLY need some CC, guys. I imagine the best thing to do with this scene would be to contrast your model and the sunset, not the model and the ground. the ground looks gross here. on a similar note, I am not entirely sure your model even needs to be lit here. perhaps you could silhouette him against the sunset. beyond aesthetics and technical details I can't comment further, since I am not seeing any kind of story being told. (it is not always necessary, but without good aesthetics it is essential) #2: again, the rule of thirds hurts you. there is a full third of ground in the frame, but I do not care about it at all. a bit of ground for balance is more likely than not an improvement, but cut down on it. the excess ground below also results in a tight crop above. the painted cutouts do not have enough headroom, which results in the blue one even being slightly cut off. you NEED headroom here. I can't really speculate further on what to do with this one, because the vertical crop is so jarring. but it's a cool subject for sure. revisit it!

I really appreciate that you guys are giving me this much critique.

Not being artistic here, just fucking around with light, hence why there on my Facebook and not Flickr: I'm being attacked by light.
My parents have a house in SE4. I'll let you know next time I'm in London dude. We can take photos and then we will drink beer.
I used to live near crystal palace park, if only I still lived there :(
"Not being artistic here, just fucking around with light"
Still too messy for my taste. It's just the way I roll. I critique and analyze everything.
Tried out the canon EF 50mm ƒ/1.8 today. It is amazing.
It IS pretty awesome!

does anybody in the UK own a 50mm 1.8 they don't use and could use £60 in their pocket? if so, PM me, I am looking to buy. If this is against the rules or summit, just snip it dai.

What's a good cheap tripod?
hama star 42 - £12 in asda
I've had a lot of fun hand-bouncing my built-in flash onto the roof and using 2nd curtain shutter. Gives everything a kinda ambient light.
http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/cameras-photography/82db/ heres a good tripod. its the gorillapod lol. http://www.thinkgeek.com/electronics/cameras-photography/a205/ something kewl I found while searching it lol
What's a good cheap tripod?
Don't get a gorillapod, they're barely capable of holding a dSLR let alone bigger lenses.
