You sure? On a crop sensor I can't really justify the extra dof over the loss of field of view.

I have a 5D MK II and I keep my 50mm 1.4 on it all day.
Right but 5D is full frame so you get a nice field of view with it. On my D90 (and if I ever decide muster up the money D7000) I've got a crop sensor meaning all my pictures will lose that field of view and look zoomed. I wish I could justify buying the 50 1.4, but at this point I'd rather have something that gives me a wider fov and the 35 1.8 does just that.

Also nice pic. Really digging how soft that light is on her and how ridiculously cool that background is.
Is there really that much of an image quality difference in the 1.4 versus the 1.8?
the 1.4 has nicer build quality, is sharper, has autofocus that doesn't suck, and it also doesn't have pentagonal bokeh
the 1.8's bokeh is okay generally, but there are some situations where it gets pretty nasty
of course if you're on a budget, the 1.8 is still pretty great

I used to lust over lenses, but now that I have my 50 1.4 + 5D2, I haven't given it any thought - perfectly content.
Oh Brian, do you by any chance use model mayhem? I'm still waiting to get accepted haha.
Yes I do. I don't find many girls on there that can follow a schedule or have nice looks tho.

Woo! Are you in the Area? Somebody should plan a So Cal Meet-up if we have enough people.

I like that second one but the clouds on that first one are piss ugly.
I LOVE the way this one turned out, looks like it's from a gritty gangster film. About street photographers...

I think I overdid it.
Just a little, not too much. I kinda like it though.
The 50mm f/1.4 is far more worth it than the 50mm f/1.8 or 35mm f/1.8.
The 35mm f/1.8 is far more ideal for cameras without the autofocus motor, however.
I think the Nikon 50mm 1.4 is a rip compared to the 35mm 1.8 for crop cameras. Why? Because the 35 ditches the distance scale and short-tele part to get a USM, ftm, and a lens designed for the cheaper Nikon cameras.

Did you take this?
It's fucking sweet.
I suck at photography, nor do I know anything about it, but I was inspecting my sisters new camera and took this.

I thought it's nice, so I wanted to share.
I like it a lot.
I also took some photos of just outside of my town. Where the farms are. Have a look!

From the opinion of an Icelander. Iceland is a cold cruel place, but is also beautiful in it's own way during the winter. Then the summer comes and everyone loves it.
Composition wise they are all right, but many look the same and they all seem to be under-exposed, gray and generally boring because of the colors.
Ah yeah thats me in S5.. what are you? No can do for next weekend, most of my prelims are the Mon Tues and Wed of that week.
I had my maths prelim today, what highers you taking?

I agree with you that they are under exposed, but as dumb as it sounds Iceland just really looks like this.
Grey and boring.

Me too. You caught the atmosphere just right. Such a cold and depressing place.

I like it. No processing whatsoever.
Got my Spyder 3 Pro today, after first calibration it immediately seemed better in regards to colour, a warmer pop per say. Upon closer inspection banding was visible, not bad but banding regardless. Working on sRGB and AdobeRGB calibration, quite the mindfuck. sRGB suits me more as I don't print right now but I suppose taking photos in AdobeRGB couldn't hurt in having a wider range of colours. I need to read up on this more.
I can't work miracles, but I hope to provide an example.

It is a great example bopie and I do appreciate it, but it's just not the atmosphere I was trying to catch you know, I didn't really want to process these photos.
Don't take me wrong though. I do appreciate the examples and criticism, just keep it coming really. No one ever learned anything without criticism!
