Nice use of the jacket to cover up the impression that whatever you're sitting on leaves. Very clever. I had trouble with that at first. My trick is to balance on the edge.

bopie how do you get such "white" color in your pictures, and the light is always so nice looking. I dunno how to explain it.
But I should be getting my 50mm 1.4 in the mail any day now.

I used a stool from my kitchen and I had no idea it was covering it, although it worked well so I'll use it again.

I just over-expose, they call it 'high-key'. It adds a sort of 'confidence' to the shots that under-exposure lacks. It takes a little practice to figure out what looks right.

some cameras also have a high key auto-preset. Nikons have it hidden in the 'scene' modes. Great for wedding portraiture

Get the 50, then save up for the 430. Good light is not going to make up for the kit lens' horrible quality and the 1.8 will help in low light situations anyways; correct me if I'm wrong.

in practical situations, yes.

ideally, its the quality, shape, etc. of the light that counts. If I had $20,000 that I could only spend on photography, ever, I'd spend a higher percentage of it on lighting equipment, and only a few lenses. you can do more creatively when you can manipulate light, but this is when you already have a decent lens or two. The reality in this situation is that 1.8 will do more for cueball than a speedlite.

Get the 50mm 1.4 codename, you won't regret waiting when you realise you saved a lot more in the long run by just getting that lens instead of getting the 1.8 first and then really wanting the 1.4 for months.

50mm f/1.4 is just as good of an upgrade as a good flash, the kit lens and the flash would be an equal upgrade in my opinion.

I think the camera takes care of that, doesn't it? Find your commander mode options, I know that with the D7000 there's separate settings for two satellites and the onboard flash with its built in wireless command.

Half heatedly going on a tangent about having a full frame sensor and not explaining how it relates to anything or why it's better, translates for the average person into 'my camera part is bigger than ur camera part cuz its pro and your small camera has a small thing cuz its small'.

I can understand saying something like that in casual conversation, but when you can type it out (let alone advertising for yourself) you should be able to at least complete the thought.
