Yeah as much as you might be tempted to skimp out and get a cheaper one, it's not worth it. I'd seriously recommend the Sb-600 or if you can make the jump go for the Sb-900.
Nikon Speedlights are so much cheaper than Canon ones. :saddowns:
Bleh, I finally have a fancy DSLR, but now I'm lacking inspiration. Enjoy your new camera! :buddy:
Got a new Camera :v: Not learned how to do much with it yet, but i always wanted a good camera to get into Photography. What's the best place to host my pictures? [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/VQml2.jpg[/img_thumb] Gah, it's either Huge or Tiny
I'd say Flickr. It makes your pictures look good.
I really like the perspective you have on the bridge, it's like tilt shift minus any editing.
SB-600 is what you want. It will keep going on and on
seriously whats the point of a ttl flash if your going to bounce it, it will only under expose. personally i would buy a non ttl flash and either purchase or make a softbox and beauty dish direct flash TTL ceiling bounce TTL direct with cheap softbox manual ceiling bounce softbox (one setting too powerful) manual ceiling bounce softbox notes the ceiling in that room is quite low so the ttl bounce would be even worse in a room with high ceilings or no nearby wall to bounce off, also with a decent softbox (not my £5 ebay pos) you can probably get nicer direct and bounce shots in both ttl and manual
Aw man, I haven't used flash since I ditched auto mode and I haven't a clue about the specifics of certain flashes/techniques and what have you, something to do today! Thanks for the info waylander, reminding me its never easy if you want to be fully satisfied! The ceiling bounce TTL isn't showing for me.
Well I'd still go for a Sb-600. In the end, it might just be a waste of money, but having peace of mind knowing I've got a solid Nikon product is worth it. I've also never had any situation where my Sb-600 has failed to expose the scene correctly. The one thing I do hate is how it runs on AA batteries, and those have inconsistent performances. As in, the lower the charge gets, the longer it takes to charge the flash. If only it ran on some lithium batteries. Still the actual flash doesn't eat through the batteries that fast to be annoying and expensive.

Work on your composure, and clean your lens. Unless your using a film camera, in which case clean your lens and scanner.

Then I realised that my D7000 has live view. I keep forgetting - after so long without it, I'm not using it much. But maybe that's a good thing... Saves on battery life at least. [editline]6th February 2011[/editline] If you look closely you can see the reflection of the trees + my tripod and legs in the top left.
I have found that the only way to manual focus on a crop DSLR is liveview, the viewfinders are SO SHIT.
Bah, it's not that bad. I manual focus all the time on my DSLR. It was only the angle that was tricky - hovering the camera over a very large puddle. I did not succeed in keeping my feet dry...
not at f/1.4, to get this shot I had to flick into liveview to get the focus perfect on the word "canon" Canon AE1-P by jhaslehurst, on Flickr
try focusing a 100mm f2 in low light using a nikon d40 with this DOF

It's bright and I can still MF if I stop down to f/22 and hold the DOF preview button. My friend's D5000 on the other hand has a horrible tint to the viewfinder and it's really dark. Went out for a bike ride today. I think my new UV filter may be affecting the quality of my shots as the majority came out shit. Yeah I know, it was difficult to compose those shots due to the wooden posts right next to it, meaning I couldn't take a step back, or had to try and take the picture from between the posts. Tl;dr got no good pictures today.
