You want to make it look like it's naturally in the scene, not forcibly placed in your face. As far as artistry, again bad form to just center everything, and it seems like it would have been a better picture without the can and pillar, right now it's still in my face, shouting "FUCK THE REST OF THE PICTURE I'M AN ENERGY DRINK". Work out a little composition, look up the "rule of thirds", then bend the rules.

Friend went to take a picture and I snapped the shot.
Work out a little composition, look up the "rule of thirds", then bend the rules.
I'm already familiar with the rules of thirds but thanks anyway for the critique.
For me, photography is less of a knowledge thing than it is an instinctual one. Just keep taking pictures, eventually you'll get a feel for what a nice photo is and what isn't. It isn't the composition I'm having problems with in your photos, it's the subject matter. Everything's terribly bland and boring, especially the fence one. Try to get something interesting in your photos, something that we don't see every day.
Well, it was kinda what I was going for in those pictures. The door stop I thought looked pretty unique, and the view from that point is something that most people don't have. For the fence, I tried to get the two light boards to stand out, and perhaps make it interesting, but that picture was pretty much a failure. And then my car, with it's rust hole, I thought was a pretty different thing. I've been told that my car looks like it has a bunch of bullet holes in the back, and so I thought I'd try to capture that.

Also, where is it?
I love the colours, reflection and just the things going on in this picture, is this SOOC? Also, where is it?
The original was a bit over-exposed (I always use my camera on manual), so I had to tone it down a bit in light-box. It was taken while the sun was setting in Richmond Park.
Wondering if I should start giving titles to my photos. Anyway here's some stuff I took with my new(old) lens today. Would really appreciate it as I've not had my DSLR for long. I'll post the rest later.
You are definitely improving! :buddy: And the first one is my favourite. It's lovely. The colours and composition of it are quite nice! It gives a very warm feeling [editline]8th February 2011[/editline] I think you should start naming your photos. It makes things easier when people comment on them. Like now for example! Can you post, _MG_7691, I think it's wonderful
Thanks! :) [editline]8th February 2011[/editline] Only being able to use manual focus on that lens seems to force you to think about composition more. Wish I had gotten an AF-Confirm adapter though.
I'd like a new lens too but I also want a flash. Is the 85mm f/1.8 USM worth it? What about the 430EX II Speedlight? [editline]8th February 2011[/editline]
5/52 [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/99673/Winter%20Day%20088.jpg[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/99673/Winter%20Day%20059.jpg[/img_thumb] I liked the first one a lot because it looked like a pine tree forest.
What are those? They're two wonderful pictures by the way.
I got the lens used in those photos for £12, bargain!
I'd like a new lens too but I also want a flash. Is the 85mm f/1.8 USM worth it? What about the 430EX II Speedlight?
It depends what you take pictures of, but I got that flash recently and it's really helped me out a lot. Like people who haven't used them underestimate flashes majorly.
I came across a Pentax ME Super on the internet going away for a cheap price(2 lenses included) and I am thinking about buying it. Is it a good camera?
Yes. It's auto exposure and manual everything else. It has a manual shutter mode. With no battery, it will shoot just only at 1/125s. It's a great way to learn how to take photos.

nifty little rig some of you may enjoy
that actually looks really good.
I'm designing up a roller that works smoothly for live video rather than timelapse, digging up broken skateboards. In the meantime, whipping up a papercraft jerry-rigged ring light, hopefully it works.
coogee powerstation. no editing because my computer is broken. C&C, camera is a sony DSC-H10 to put things into perspective.
what. :psyduck:
if you don't know it, don't look into it. Dog looks familiar, and being in a dark foggy field doesn't help :v:

They are some stupid shrub that everyone seems to lover here in Georgia. Every neighborhood street is bound to have one. It's cool in the winter because it has that wheat stalk on it, but in the summer it just has those grassblades everywhere.

You made them look like tall white pine trees.

There's a drink placed in front of somebody taking pictures. If there's a story there, it's not very obvious. As far as aesthetics go, nothing particularly stands out.
