The Creative Photography Thread - If It Ain't Bokeh, Don't Fix It

For some reason I keep calling lightroom lightbox.
spent some time digging through my basement for bits and dodads of electronics my dad made years and years ago, ended up coming across a few things- Flourescent lights, workbench hanging light brackets for said lights, a hand-made power box with a lock-and-key box over a light switch trigger for the to prevent idiots from accidentally killing the supply, and a ton of lock-together wood flooring slats. Used my backdrop stands to hold them for now.

My only gripe right now is that the bulbs to [your] right are flickery, so they're giving off a dimmer pinkish hue. A nice effect regardless, but I still want to go find fresh bulbs instead of basement duds. You can see a bit of blur from where the right light didn't provide anything, giving off a yellowish ghost in the blur (especially around my feet).
Even with the one bulb being all twitchy, I managed to get 1/80 shutter with only 400 ISO at f/3.5. Pretty nice lighting for being a constant source.
The result of the lighting as of right now-
If it were commercial advertising, it's bad form to have it just plain out in the center like that. You want to make it look like it's naturally in the scene, not forcibly placed in your face.
As far as artistry, again bad form to just center everything, and it seems like it would have been a better picture without the can and pillar, right now it's still in my face, shouting "FUCK THE REST OF THE PICTURE I'M AN ENERGY DRINK".
Work out a little composition, look up the "rule of thirds", then bend the rules.
I have to agree, but I think an advertising campaign of "FUCK EVERYTHING ELSE I'M AN ENERGY DRINK" would totally reel me in.

The second one is nice, I'd have prefered the third if it didn't have that tilt.
Here are a few photos of mine... CC is welcomed. I am pretty new to photography, and I'd like to improve. I don't have a DSLR. These were all taken with a Powershot G11.

This one has an interesting atmosphere and I like that it mostly consists of horizontal and vertical lines. The two biggest exceptions are the tree and the girl which has the effect that they stand out.
I'm wondering if the photo would benefit by removing the girl. Probably not, but in my opinion it's not perfect composition wise.

Dropping some of my winterwork. Please C&C
Third one, the ghosting caused by HDR on the plants is kind of distracting. Wind is sometimes a terrible thing. It still looks good though.
I absolutely love the 5th one. Great contrast between the cold blues, dead greens, browns and the bright oranges. The snow just adds to the beautiy.

I think the photograph would feel too dead if the girl was removed, if that makes any sense.

I don't even know what Macro and Shutter Speed is, and I don't understand the focus, but I like it.
Macros are basically really close-up photos.

Shutter speed is how long the film or sensor is exposed to the light
Focus is exactly what it sounds like, Its when you focus the lens making your subject sharp rather then blurred.
http://yanikphotoschool.com/tutorials/introduction-to-macro-photography-part-1/
Heres an article that explains macro photography better then I can.
Heres a website that will give you a base too start on. Read through some of those articles and everything will be a lot clearer to you.

That looks really complicated.
My camera doesn't even support change of lens :v:

Just messing around with holding the lens up to the body backwards. It's hard to get a decent picture :( The second one is just to illustrate the scale of the first one. Might pick up a reversing ring.

Wish it was autofocus, or a Pentax-A lens
Oh well
