Heard on the news today that the northern lights are gonna be back due to some solar flares on the sun or something like that. Damn I can't wait.
Can't you just plug it into a laptop and use that to do it through EOS Utility?
eos utility is limited in its setting compared to a real intervalometer, i have seen some software that uses usb and claims to allow shooting as often as a proper intervalometer but it was quite expensive and i forgot what its called. also if your going to do a timelapse for a long period you should consider the wear it will add to your shutter (a good few % of total expected shots) its worth using video mode and extracting the single frames to make the timelapse
running video for extended periods of time is worse for you sensor (heat) than firing off a few hundred shutter clicks. even then, a thousand clicks is still less than 1% of average shutter life. on top of that most people never get to the point where the shutter dies. on top of THAT its only a couple hundred $ to get a new shutter mechanism (and they fix up the rest of the camera) also 450D has no video. and ive been drinking at lunch. edit: whoops clicked a rating on meself :)
also bopie the old flash doesn't fire on my 1000D

Baahhh. I haven't been out for so long. :(
I just found out CHDK do a custom firmware for the 400D... Putting it on now! :D
Canon EOS 400D hack. Summary of new features: 1. Maximum ISO value (From 1600 to 3200) 2.
When I get home I'll send you a copy. Won't post the link here since it might be called warez.
You can just get it off google and canon's own website I think
Ah I thought you meant I could power the camera form the laptop, but still use the intervalometer for the timelapse.. as opposed to the software. I didn't even think about the effect of a timelapse on the shutter :S You guys have got me kind of worried, I'm scared to do it now...
