The Creative Photography Thread - If It Ain't Bokeh, Don't Fix It

I fucking hate when people ask me to take pictures of something for them. It sounds a thousand times easier said than done. It actually puts me in a horrible mood when I'm forced to do something without 'soul'. I sound angsty as shit but it is actually one of the most irritating things in the world when someone asks me to take a family portrait or some stupid shit - just because I'm 'the oh so creative photographer nephew with the big camera and the flickr'. It's not the actual work that bothers me, I could put the effort in a thousand times for free, its just so degrading. and I sound like a cunt because it's my family asking for a simple picture - there is just something about being pushed to take a picture that i don't care for that really, really pisses me off.

This is pretty much why I didn't take Art past GCSE, getting told "you're painting this and this today" is not my idea of art.

Also distracting me from why I came to this thread:
Does Bridge CS5 automatically adjust exposure when getting raws from a camera? All my photos seem much darker once I import them.

Welcome to photography for a living, a dismal world of people asking you to break physics and the bounds of what you would consider 'artistic' in the name of a dollar.

While I haven't been asked to shoot anything for my family/friends (well not seriously as far as I can tell) I've always been told "OH HO YOU CAN DO THE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY FOR WHEN THEY GET MARRIED!" The idea of it is enough to put me off wedding photography. Any photographs I show family I get a really sarcastic "wow!" from. I'm not going to be doing photographs for the local town magazine either. In daylight people don't like someone walking around with a shiny camera because you're a "perv", but at night with alcohol in them they'll be in your face to get a new facebook photo or to look "cool".
How do your family react when you get annoyed with it anyway?
This is pretty much why I didn't take Art past GCSE, getting told "you're painting this and this today" is not my idea of art.
Pre-GCSE art was horrible, paint this famous painting in a 1 hour exam and get marked down in your report because its shit.
shoot one or two weddings, for family, under the condition you can work along side a paid professional. Have the guy give you tips and tricks, tell you what to go shoot, and give you a nice perspective on how the process goes.
Then laugh if you outdo him
Also, I HATE that "...woooow, yeah, that's niiiice" that family members give when you show them a genuinely gorgeous photo. It doesn't sound sarcastic so much as it sounds like they have no idea why you're so happy about it but they'll humor you anyways
That's a very good idea! I would think in their mind a point and shoot would suffice because "a photo is a photo el-oh-el" as long as its in a nice frame it doesn't matter. Weddings seem to be the first thing that comes to a lot of peoples minds when you bring up photography, UNFORTUNATELY!
Pff! I don't even get a "nice!" just a blank or sarcastic "woow". I guess I stand out a lot in a family where they finish school during/drop out before GCSEs and just work for the rest of their days as mechanics.
In general, I cringe when I have to call myself a photographer, or that I 'do photography'. It just doesn't feel right.

I suck it up and force a smile, I'm not going to whine like a bitch and disrespect them.

My cousin sings professionally, so I can imagine how she feels when we all gather 'round, mindlessly clapping and complimenting, and shouting requests.
Welcome to the new PHOTOGRAPHY SUBFORUM BITCHEEEES
writing up a sticky before I have to run out this weekend, pressed for time but damn I'm glad I'm late to leaving, haha
While I appreciate the subforum and it's 3 threads, there's a cooking subforum now? What the fuck? Half the kids here know nothing more than putting something in the microwave for 15 minutes!

Ehh... Something tells me stuff's gonna burn. Thank god we have a photography sub forum to put the pictures of the fires though!
On topic, got some more rolls of film developed.

And then there's this thing. Most of my pictures of the moon come out like crap, but I kinda liked the effect this had on the clouds.

Now I don't mean to confuse you because even after looking at colour spaces I may be confused. Importing through Bridge might assign a colour space for it to use, I don't believe it gets one when you shoot RAW till the import/processing happens. I shoot in RAW and my photos come out pretty much the exact same into Lightroom as they appeared on the camera screen. Maybe some settings bridge/your camera could be the cause of the problem? Are you sure its every photo?

if anyone wants stuff added/changed, post about it here and I'll get to it when I can. Going out for another weekend of being drunk in a sea of scantily clad girls.
I got a photoshoot booked with a popular cosplayer, in both costumes below :pervert:
Fucken UV filters always save the day! I've dropped two of my lenses multiple times, lucky for me I had UV filters on both. Both remain unscathed apart from scratches on the plastic/metal :) my friend dropped her camera, no UV filter attached, lens instantly wrecked. I'm amazed how one filter can make such a difference...
I wish they made lenses like they did for this bad-boy:
[img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/26/Zenit_am_by_igors_jefimovs.jpg/800px-Zenit_am_by_igors_jefimovs.jpg[/img_thumb]
Pretty much everything is metal, and thick metal too. I've got one of the lenses from a Zenit camera and it comes out with nice vintage-looking portraits :) and I can drop it out of second-story windows and stuff and it remains unscathed, I shit you not.
That's what pisses me off about today's cameras. Is there a specific reason why my $600 SLR is made of plastic? Serious question. I mean, is there a reason why they go for plastic instead of metal? Is it an internal thing or what?
Lighter, cheaper, easier to manufacture, easier to repair, sometimes more durable.

Pretty sure.
Strep throat is not fun... Keep that in mind guys... NOT FUN
So I went to see my friend in a boxing match today.
Got some good shots.

Suffered with it twice. Ice cream and try and eat at least one proper meal a day, even a bit is better than none as you'll heal quicker. Find a massive saliva build up?
There is a red dot in the middle of the pictures i take, sometimes it's gone and sometimes it's there. What do?
It's only at higher ISO settings though

PC bounces, metal dents. It's more durable for the most part.

That's a hot pixel and it's pretty normal at high ISO.

isn't that a terrible idea for your immune system
