No, the 50mm 1.4 is worth at least 50x it's price [b]if[/b] you use it for what it's intended for. That is, shooting subjects and far-away landscapes. Don't get it expecting to be able to take shots of rooms in your house for example.

I don't see any conceivable way I could ever be disappointed with the shots possible with the lens as the range of uses are so diverse, and the sharpness is incredible.

In comparison with the 1.2, it beat that at the useful f-stop range of 2-3f in regards to sharpness, and those are the f-stops I most often use for all purposes, and for £1000 less, I see it as a true essential in the world of prime Canon lenses.

It's pretty addictive, I haven't touched my stock lens since I bought my nifty fifty.

I figured I'd cut out getting the 1.8, because in all reviews I read that the bokeh, build quality and general sharpness was bad compared to the 1.4, and that it's usually used as a marginal lens for people who didn't know what sort of shots they really wanted, to see if 50mm suited them before then buying the 1.4.

It's definately the sort of lens I can see myself using for the next 10-15 years quite happily, and the sharpness advantage at f2.0-2.8 over the 1.2 means that I'm not missing out on anything by not having the 1.2.

My advice would be to grab yourself a hood when you do get one, handy as summer is fast approaching.

the wedding picture were taken at Laguna Beach, which is right under L.A. and the white stone pictures are taken at the Getty Museum of Art in L.A.

if you are not from America, i took them in California, or the west side of the states.

I know I'm quoting this from a few pages back but, Damn it! Now I have too go clean my screen!
I thought I was safe, but apparently drinking soda and browsing this thread is a bad idea at times.

On a side note, I went Whale Watching today out in Newport, Ca. Unfortunately we didn't see any whales but I did see hundreds of dolphins. They are fast, Couldn't really get any decent photos. I did however take plenty of pictures of my Friend, so I'll post that some time over the next few days when I get around too it! :D

for me, flickr is a centralized place for the keepers, while after a while i take all the pictures on my hardrive, resize to 1920x1080 (keep aspect ratio original), and throw it in a compressed folder on my second hardrive.
