for me, flickr is a centralized place for the keepers, while after a while i take all the pictures on my hardrive, resize to 1920x1080 (keep aspect ratio original), and throw it in a compressed folder on my second hardrive.
Thing is I have alot of like "snapshot" pics of things I dont necessarily want but kinda add to the story of things that happened. Like a picture of the landscape from a car while driving, not really picture worthy but I feel like I might want to have it in the future. Can't explain it but my OCD is fucking with me
i feel the exact same way, and my resize+compress method works well for me. 1920x1080 (or whatever it comes out to with aspect ratio) is plenty for 'memory-collection' snapshots. I usually never look at them, i just like knowing i can if i need to. and when i do, i can get all the dates etc from the exif. sometimes i use loosely organized sub-folders if i want to keep something separate, like a vacation.
Alot of my shots are from my old camera (moto droid) and yeah they are kinda wack. Guess I'll just keep it all. But how do you choose in the end which shots you want to upload? Just ones you like?
I have so little to contribute here, I literally thought about posting pics from my pup. God I need to have more time
[img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5256/5390782402_8926e7ba9d_b.jpg[/img_thumb] hiya dog. Oh yeah and a picture of my girlfriend for good measure [img_thumb]http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5211/5385866832_19de981708_b.jpg[/img_thumb] I wish I could take her portrait but she gets nervous whenever I have my camera. Any suggestions?
My girlfriend was very camera shy when I met her. Now she's almost always willing to pose for a photo and isn't phased by candids either - even occasionally in the nude. Of course, everyone is different, by I suggest not giving her any special treatment with the camera. Don't pick her out of the crowd to photograph. It'll only make her feel uncomfortable (of course, some people blossom in the camera's view, but most people are the opposite). After she's gotten used to you shooting candids of everybody, when it's only you two, try and take her portrait. Maybe a full frame - without a close up on the face etc. Whenever I asked for a portrait and my girlfriend wasn't in the mood, I just simply took the strap off my neck and and told her to take a photo of me instead. That was a great way to build her confidence both behind and in front of the camera - willing to put myself in her position sometimes is important. + As a photographer, you're rarely in the photos themselves. It's fun to switch it around. By the end, once she realizes your photographs aren't half bad, there shouldn't be a problem. One thing though, don't ever push for a photograph when someone really, really doesn't want it. It's just rude. When shooting on the street it can happen a lot. I've gotten a lot of abuse over the years - sometimes people get violent. But a suggestion is to take a few frames while walking closer to the subject, then as soon as they realize you're taking a photo, or you're close enough, go and introduce yourself. Get talking, then take a few more. I keep saying this, but it's important to not forget the person behind the photo. Least of all, your girlfriend.

5 rolls to scan, it's gonna be a long night. Last.fm should keep me sane (I hope).

Hey, being annoying again.. What would you consider better, D40X or 400D? Also, what cameras would be one stage up from each?
the 450D or the 1000D would be a one up from the 400D, no idea about the other camera.
Hey, being annoying again.. What would you consider better, D40X or 400D? Also, what cameras would be one stage up from each?
I have a 400D, It doesn't have live view or do video. The 450D has live view and the 500D has 1080p video (at 20fps).
I'm impatient so I'm going to post a couple now, I really love how these turned out, all f/1.7 if I remember correctly. Is an EOS 1N with power booster any good for £80?
I love how you caught the atmosphere in this one.
Thanks! 'couple of portraits before I go to bed, even these few in a vague group look so impressive together (in my opinion). I would love to hit the streets and fill a roll of film with peoples faces. Thanks Salmon for the comment :3: Means a lot, actually.
I'm off to a party dressed as Kurt Cobain. Have a good night people.
