Hey guys I took this one a while ago from inside a car and think that I MIGHT have overdone the colors, but I thought I'd ask what you guys thought of it anyways:

I actually also really like how the picture seems to be layered, e.g river/field - subject (tree) - town/road (which really stands out from the background) - background. Pretty cool picture.

I'm jealous of your new avatar. It's awesome.
Not bopie but I tried? I didn't have any good candidates SOOC.

god damn I've been doing a lot of animu conventions. I've got like 2 weeks worth of editing to do by thursday. Got a shoot in with a popular cosplayer though
Does anyone get questioned when they're out with their camera? A farmer stopped by me today near a row of abandoned farmsteads and houses that would have been excellent for creepy, haunted like photos. He asked what I was taking photos of and didn't seem convinced but let me go on when I said it was for a university interview (which it was). Regardless of that I started walking towards the building and a stupid dog started barking and grring. RRRRRRRR
Yeah, I usually find the nearest house/farm and ask the person there if they know who's in charge of the lot in question, and if anything ask to be escorted around. Ask them about the place's history, 9 times out of 10 the person will take you on a really cool tour of the past.
or whip out a shotgun and tell you the jehovas aren't gettin' nobody round he'ahr
place I stopped at just today, cell phone pic since I haven't gotten around to dumping my cam card and editing yet.

yes, that house is about 30 degrees sideways, casts a pretty mean shadow over the road it's next to. When I got there the mailman was tending to the mailbox of the house across the street, I'd be fucking TERRIFIED to stop even for a second in that spot.

I want to start taking up photography again. I used to just use point and click cameras, and I would say I did pretty good with angles, the rest was up to the camera. The DSLR I have is pretty old, it's a Pentax *ist D, which is one of the oldest Pentac DSLR I believe. I also have a stand that is intended for video cameras, but it works with all cameras.
Now, I've got a couple questions to make sure I understand what I am doing:
1. Av = Aperture value right? What setting should I use for different occasions, and what exactly does it do?
2. Tv = Time value right? Longer allows more light to be absorbed into the lens right, or does it do something else? I know that longer shots need to be very stable.
I'm sorry if I sound like a complete moron, and I know I could look this up, but I'd prefer the responses from people here that give me exactly the answer I'm looking for.
Also, I wasn't sure if I should've posted this here or the tut. thread as I think more people frequent this thread.

Hm, Considering it's a HDR it doesn't seem well exposed. Dark areas are too dark and light areas are too light. The purpose of a HDR picture is usually to expose two differently lit areas well.
The subject you've chose for HDR is okay, It has over and underexposed areas, I don't know how you're processing it though.

Correct. If it's very dark you'll want the aperture open all the way (lowest number) but as it gets lighter you can usually stop down a bit to increase sharpness (down to about 8.0).
Tv is also correct.
Basically what they're doing is it's giving you control of 1 or two of the 3 main factors in photography. (Aperture, Shutter speed or ISO). By adjusting one, the camera will automatically adjust the other(s) to expose the photo well.
If you're not sure how much to change stuff, aim for roughly a shutter speed of 1/focal length in seconds. So if you're using a 50mm lens, try getting the shutter speed either 1/50 or shorter (higher number on the bottom).

[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/136.jpg[/img_thumb]
Nope, To get real HDR you need to take 3 or more exposures at different settings.
There's usually exposure compensation on most DSLRs so just set that to +/-2 and it will take 3 pictures in sequence.
One dark, one normal and one light. Then feed the 3 or more pictures into Photomatrix or similar and basically play with sliders.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-dynamic-range_imaging#Example
See that, the single exposures have areas which are over/underexposed. Merging them into a HDR then converting to a normal LDR image makes all/most areas of the image well exposed.
one more try and i gotta go. so equal exposure throughout the merged photo is what i should aim for in hdr photos?
so more like this.

Yep, very much like that :D
awesome, thanks for the help
I miss my sigma 50mm.
It's been nearly a month since I had the lens (with faulty focusing) for one day and i had to send it back to hong kong to refund it for a new one. Even if it was impaired with a focal retardation, I still loved my sigma for that one day I had it. Now i've been waiting for so long for a fixed one because digitalrev are slow as shit.
i miss u sigma bb please come back :(

The blue effect here was SOOC. The tree and car was really underexposed and everything else was just tweaked some in Lightroom. Enjoy and CC is welcome.
Found out the hard way how shooting with an open lens in snow is a bad idea.
High contrast is causing some hell purple fringing. I don't know how to avoid is other than stopping down to a lower aperture.
At 1.4 my shutter is constantly 1/6000 so everything is over-exposed too, the only solution is going to 3-4 but that defeats the purpose of using the lens for the DOF qualities.
