I drove to the Appalachian mountains north of Atlanta and the roads are completely deserted and ridiculously curvy. Best roads I've ever driven on, and having a small, fast hatchback on those roads is awesome.
Done that exact same thing. Whatchu drivin bruh?
go somewhere with lots of illuminaton and set it to long exposure
yeah but it doesn't always light it the way you want.
Put your camera on a tripod, move the flash around and take pictures with the flash covering all parts of the car. Stack the pictures in Photoshop(Set each layer to lighten then use masks to hide hotspots and stuff) There's a youtube video that explains this better but I can't find it.
Ah cheers dude. In that scooby picture I didn't have a tripod (still dont have it, its in the boot of someones car)

So it turns out my grandfather I never met (He died somewhat young) was a photographer and won a few awards for his work. Sadly I couldn't look him up as Phillip Johnson isn't exactly a unique name :v: When I go up to Boston over the summer I'll be able to go through all of his old gear (1950-1970s gear mostly) and over 1500 slides my grandmother has. If we can find somewhere to do it we may attempt to digitize all of the pictures! I also may be allowed to inherit gear so I am pretty excited.
On an off note he has an autograph book with signatures from all of the big Boston Redsox players from the 50s though 70s and many of the players who come to Fenway. My grandmother just had it sitting around without realizing it's worth. And my worth I don't mean money as I'd never sell it.

That looks awesome, very nicely shot. I think it being underground? it looks natural to have the sun beaming down so strongly as that's the only ambient light you're getting.

This is the guy that went down into the subways in New York and explored some of the unused stations and the underground that was off limits?
And yes it does feel like this thread is moving slow.

Even though it's a different car, I know exactly what you mean - I drive a mk4 vw GTI - something about the 'hot hatch' you just can't resist .

perfect way to king a page, btw.
Edit: I had this strange, alcohol fueled urge to take a picture for the sheer pleasure of taking a picture. This is the result.

I suppose you could title it about something about not caring about people who don't like high-key or someshite. I don't really care. I brought down the lowlights to bring out some contrast just for shits and giggles.

Took another whack at a HDR photo of that bridge... taking onboard the advice to move a little left to get more of the other side in. It wasn't as clear this time, but the sunset gave some really nice colours. This one was taken with 3 exposures at +/- 1 1/3. The older one was 5 stops.
EDIT: Here's the old one for comparison, preference?

Both are very nice, but I find the newer one to be more pleasing because of how vibrant and strange the colours appear.
£40 to fill up the car today (which struggles up EVERY DAMN HILL IN THIS HILLY COUNTRY), spent around 2 hours going around exploring looking at boarded up places and seeing nice views, no photos came out really well so I'm going to edit around and see what's decent at least. Me and a friend are gonna do some night shooting this week, I am excite!
Guys I need some help, I take videos with my camera which are in .mov format, and I want to edit them in Adobe Premier Pro which doesn't take .mov files. Does anyone know of a good reliable program that can convert .mov files to .avi ones? I've tried a couple already but the files they output either crash Premier Pro or it just refuses to import them and says the file is broken.
are you sure you have quicktime?
are you sure you have quicktime?
I don't have quicktime... but that's irrelevant isn't it? You can't import quicktime .mov files into Premier Pro, that's the problem.
Sick video you linked to in your photo, Bopie. I closed the window when he was about to rip of his nail. Jesus christ - I hate nail-pain!!
Oh it seems Premiere Pro CS5 supports .mov files. Might just have to... obtain that somehow.
Alrighty, doing night photography from 9pm till 2am. My friend has his point and shoot, I have my D3000 tripod and SB-700. Not exactly sure what we'll shoot, see when the time comes.
Hey guys, anyone got any advice on shooting cars at night? I got two flash's with wireless triggers.
Went out the other day and the photos came out pretty shit

(bad qual from facebook cba for flickr with crap photos like this)
Is there a specific place I can point the flashes? or will I need a softbox or something to spread the light out?
If you're going to use flash(es), do a multiple exposure stack/merge photo. Otherwise, just completely forget about the flash.
find an area with no illumination, or even illumination (by even, I mean that all sides of the car is being lit equally) and set the WB to as neutral as possible. This will get you better results.
