Focus is a little iffy but I love the colours. A little tip for next time would be to choose a better subject, and try to think beyond your back yard (I know myself how hard it is to find the motivation!).

Also good for you for sticking with a Point-and-Shoot! I used one for all my photography for a year and a half before I had enough saved up and the right sale came on before I got my DSLR and I can tell you that it really taught me how to make a good photo on the image as a whole, rather than separate elements that "look nice". Remember: DaVinci wasn't amazing because he used the best pencils.

Highland Cattle.
They're super inquisitive and really friendly. Followed us around for a long time.
The guy that owns them is selling them for £500 each. That's fucking cheap - but the only catch is that you have to promise not to eat them.
They're used (at least in that setting) as habitat modifiers. Keeping scrubland and ancient woodland diverse by creating micro-habitats by selectively eating certain shrubs etc.

You've obviously got what it takes and damn, it must be nice having your little brother around to shoot all the time. From the photographs of him that you post, it seems to me that he bugs you to photograph him far more than you ask him to model for you?

I guess it's just one of those things. What you're passionate about the most is often what gets you down. But if you really are passionate about something you should stick at it in one form or another. No matter how hard it sometimes gets.

I took a picture of some young deer a while ago that turned out quite horrible, but through the advancements of modern RAW editing, I was able to make it look quite nice.

King of the Hill would be incredible as well if the guy stood out a bit more - he blends in with the background and is not immediately apparent. Maybe the b&w wasn't the best idea?

I don't see what makes an unedited photo any more artistic than a split-toned one. There are no trends in art, only influences, otherwise we'd be calling every cubist piece after Les Demoiselles trendy. Stop trying to judge a piece off of personal bias.

I have no preference for unedited photos, in fact I loathe those who are pretentious enough to assert that they're better for any purpose save some instances of photojournalism

likewise, I have no grudge against split-toning

but the point I was making, perhaps rudely, is that they weren't at all split-toned well, and the fact that he apologized for them in advance makes me think he ought to have put more thought into post-processing them

Fair enough. The fact that he followed that up by stating that he was just messing around in lightroom would have made it clear that he was just experimenting, which is never a bad thing.

Went up north for a ski/snowboard trip. Came back with pretty much only this:

My mom wouldn't let me take my camera with me while snowboarding, or when I went snowmobiling. Missed a lot of great photo ops.

Also, the ski resort that I was at had 4 of those cow things that picwickian posted a few pages ago. Mind you, the resort was in Northern Michigan.
