in reply to your snip, I think it's a good thing, and I hope you look back on today's images and think "wow how did I even get by with this technique?". Shouldn't hate so much as look down and laugh at how far you've come in such little time.

Quite happy with this as a portrait picture.

Not much to say here.

Nothing special about this one...

It's okay-ish isn't it.

's allright.

VERY happy with this one, but I didn't get the aperture quite as open as I'd like, because it was too bright.

BOKEH-licious. Yeah...

Kinda happy about this one, but there's just something about it that seems... Strange-ish...

just a general comment, I think that if you have say, 10 photos that you consider posting then 2-3 of them make you say "meh" with the other 7-8 being pretty good in your opinion, I don't see why you would even bother tho post those 2-3. (hopefully that didn't sound too harsh). :)
If you can, try stopping down (smaller aperture). It should get rid of the purple (and sometimes green) fringes you can see in the last picture.

I liked all of them somewhat, I just didn't have anything to comment on. Didn't sound too harsh, no worries.
Oh and It's not like it's a problem that I post it right? Unless some of you are on some limited Internet connection, in which case I will use media tags in the future.

Yeah I know, I just haven't used my 75-300mm Mark II that much and didn't think it was this bad.
I've edited it away in a few of the other pictures, but just didn't bother with the last one (don't ask me why).
Horror example with the Canon EF 75-300mm Mark II (no editing):

I like this photo.
I like most pet photos to be honest.
I'm really loving my 50mm though. Too bad after going through all that trouble to bring back my faulty focusing lens, they send me another lens with faulty focusing. :smith:
Oh well, I still manage. I just have to twist the ring a bit to the right every time I autofocus so my focus is accurate. It's a bit tedious and does require trial and error sometimes, but there's no way I'm going through all that grief again to send my lens back with a chance that they will send me a faulty lens for the 3rd time.

Sigma 50mm f/1.4?
Mine is also struggling a bit, especially when it's a bit dark and I'm close to the subject. Usually not a problem if I stop down to f/2 or smaller.

Ask for a refund?
Really? If I were you and had spent out a load of money on a faulty lens I would get on that shit and bitch at them. Get them to test it before they send you out another one.
Ask for a refund?
I could, and end up getting a canon 50mm, but I just cbf sending it overseas again.
I'll probably save up for a 7d instead of a 60d and use the focus adjustment feature in that to fix the focusing issue. Otherwise i'll just have to live with it. The price difference between the 7d and 60d is a fair bit.
If you save up for a bit longer there might be a 7D MKII coming out too, which could be interesting to look at.

Thing is this problem is fairly common with the sigma 50mm. I don't even know if a faulty sigma lens is only faulty on one canon body or if it will be faulty on all canon bodies. Seems to be a very random issue, sometimes the focusing is off by 5cm, sometimes it's off by 20 cm, sometimes it will be faulty on only one camera body, or sometimes it will be faulty on all bodies it's mounted on. I've heard some very different reports on this issue.
I don't know why sigma hasn't fixed this shit yet.

I think it would be worth it in order to not have to live with the faulty focusing for however long you use that lens.
I'll consider saving up for the 7d then I guess.
Here's some I don't think I have posted here yet.

I can't see how I can criticize it because there is nothing wrong with it.
Perhaps remove that bright white thing (light?) in the bottom right corner and get rid of some of the noise?

Maybe try and not expose it quite so much or use a lower iso, the large light balls are distracting, the 3rd one would be amazing if it wasn't for those crazy light balls.
