Work on your framing. Your subjects are having parts of them cut off.
Graffiti guy is missing part of his foot, the corner of the white castle box is cut off, for the last one whatever it is you have a huge empty space below the drop while at the same time clipping the lines at the top.

Went on a little walk for a school assignment and ended up just taking loads of irrelevant pictures of my friend.

i know most of you probably hate that hipstamatic app on iphone, but I took some nice photos on it today, not on my iphone though.
The content is nice that's all, I wish I brought my own camera.

just seen the mobile phone thread
will post them in there when i have them
Road trip through Europe with stops at Switzerland (The alps), France, Germany, Italy etc Staying and going around Italy, venice etc. Think 18-55mm and 50mm 1.8 will suffice?
Definitely. Jaanus showed me this amazing photographer girl he knows who takes the best shots I have seen in ages on a 1000d with 18-55 and 50 1.8. Though I'm buying a 17-50 2.8 to use as a all-use lens soon.
Lacking inspiration and struggling to get to grips with the MF on this lens but I'm determined to get better at it. I don't really like these shots apart from the first one but maybe someone will.

Is this on film or digital? I have no problems using MF lenses because I have been using them as a cheap alternative to more expensive primes for the past few months.
[editline]3rd May 2011[/editline]
Also that's some interesting bokeh, what lens?
That's digital it's taken on a 50mm 1.8 prime lens. I enjoy manual focusing it's just frustrating when things don't turn out the way you want with it. But yeah I noticed that it almost gives off, like a heat wave effect. I really like it.
-snip, I'll ask in the gear thread :3:-
I also enjoy manual focussing lenses, it just sucks that using manual focus with my Canon 50mm f1.8 REALLY sucks because of the focus ring that looks like it was made for a fucking goddamn midget bacteria
Yeah I'd agree and it's very sensitive too, the slightest slip and it's messed up. Not that it's a bad thing being sensitive.

Were you trying to manual focus with the biggest aperture on an entry level camera, by any chance?
D3100 and yes, if I'm doing this wrong teach me. I have no experience with fixed lenses and very little with manual focusing.
It's almost like radial blur.
That's why you need a pentaprism, instead of a pentamirror for manual focus.
Bright huge pentraprism.... Yeah.:smug:
Been on hiatus for awhile, if you want to call it that. Went outside with my camera just to hold my camera.

1- Don't shoot wide open all day every day. 2- The d3100 has a tiny viewfinder and unless you attach a magnifier and install a split prism screen (google that shit) you won't be able to manually focus shit unless you stop down to something like f8.
Thats pretty nice.

I can manual focus fine on my 1000d's tiny viewfinder at f/2 without a magnifier or split prism, I do have very good eyesight though.

It also has to do with practice. Technology and good eyesight only go so far.
I used to manual focus then set it into auto, just for practice.
It got to the point where I hated when it would move after I set it into auto (meaning I fucked up the focus) and I ended up getting pretty good at it.

Thats a pretty good technique, thanks!
