The colors produced from my 40 year old 58 2.0 always are far nicer than my kit lens despite it's age, mmm.

Love this so much.
Great shot in my opinion. The geese are perfect!
Also, my girlfriend loved the shot as well. But she loves Canadian Geese. Has them tattooed huge on her arm.
I'm wondering if I should start one of those 'Photography by X' threads since Dai has been asking for more threads but I'm not sure if I could be considered good enough to start one of those yet, perhaps I should wait until I start my 365.

I think I will use my 1000th post to do good in the subforum that is my favourite.
First off - great shot. It took me about a minute to actually figure out what was going on, what the setting was. I thought you were inside at first - then I saw the street and worked out your reflection. It looks very classic and in a way tells a story.
Great

Could you guys please tell me what the best photo on my portfolio is please?
My photo teacher let me borrow a Nikkor 50mm 1.8 (Nikon Mount) until the end of the year. I have a Nikon film camera I was mainly going to use it for but with some tape it became a Pentax Lens. It works totally fine minus the auto-focus.

:lsd: woah. I'm trippin balls man.
Yes! Got an interview at a photography studio that does things like senior portraits, student portraits, sports photography, portrait photography and the like. This will be great practice :D
There is another girl in my yearbook class who got the job as well (and she's the photographer for their 'elite' package) and she took absolutely zero pictures for the yearbook this year and has no clue how to use a camera. So I think I have a good chance at getting this job, seeing as she got a job as a photographer. I think all of their settings have a chart for what to set the camera to, but I personally don't care. It's 100 times better than scanning groceries day in day out.
Super stoked!
So fucking pissed. So I got the job at that studio right? They're contracted to shoot pictures for over 18,000 high school seniors in my area this Summer. Well, they were shady when I got my senior portraits done last year and they used all of the shitty ass marketing schemes to get people to pay them. It cost $25 to take our portraits for the yearbook (it has always been free, but their contract states that each student must pay a MINIMUM of $25 to get their portrait taken and choose another 'scene' in which you take your picture at), and you had to use Debit or Credit. I won't even go into the price of the prints, but lets just say that 2 8x10's will run you $150+ no problem. Well they send EVERYONE a leatherbound 3-fold album with their pictures in it in the mail. However, if you don't return it in 10 days then they charge your card for like $250 and the thing becomes yours, it's written in about 6 point font at the bottom of some packaging slip. It cost us $9 just to ship it back to them because it was packaged in an odd size and didn't fit a standard box and had no return label for free shipping back (we never ordered the damn thing).
Anyways, not only is that shady. But today was the first day of orientation, and they basically told us that they were deducting $90 from everyone's first paycheck in order to fund our uniforms, fingerprints and other shit. Hell no, nobody I've ever worked for has done that, that's a cost of business.
Get this, we had to sign a paper that stated in bold all of the obvious stuff, don't distribute their images, etc. But in fine print, not bolded, it said something to the effect of you agree to a non compete agreement for two years after you quit or are let go. So basically, if I work for this company (who seem like a bunch of greedy assholes and actually call themselves a 'machine') I can't do any of my own freelance work or work for another photographer such as my dad for another two years. Fuck that shit.
Also, from word of mouth, I heard from another new guy that they were part of this cult here in North Florida called the End Timers. To my amazement, I'm about 100% sure he's right. They're very strict and conservative in their beliefs, they all drive Cadillacs (especially escalades) and they wear really nice suits and watches. After doing some research on this group, I found the name of one of the men who owns the studio. It's fucking insane. It's an extremist religious group who like kill animals and don't own pets because they believe the devil lives within animals and they're known for driving Cadillacs and wearing nice suits! Here's an excerpt from the article. His name is Mike Cady and he owns Cady & Cady Studios in Jacksonville, FL with his brothers and family (the place I applied).

Does anyone else think that is FUCKING WEIRD?! They kill kittens and shit too. It says it toward the beginning. Anyways, they obviously fit the ballet. They have the same name, they're from the same area of Florida, they all are very stern about their beliefs, and they are all rich as fuck and drive Cadillacs and wear nice suits. There is something the fuck up and it's much more than them being a bunch of schemers.
What the hell, I'm so mindfucked right now. I know this is a bit off topic, but when I posted earlier about getting the job... This happens.
[editline]21st May 2011[/editline]
PS. They only do graduation pictures, and the guy sold graduation supplies. I'm willing to bet that this 'Mike Cady' is the guys that I work for's dad. Their names are like Jeremy, Michael (and some other name) and their last name is Cady and they're from Lakeland... Now they all do senior portraits for high schools and that's all, they also make the yearbooks. Something's up.
18,000? Jesus christ.
That sounds unbelievably creepy too, my sympathy goes out to you.
I can't do any of my own freelance work or work for another photographer such as my dad for another two years.
Wouldn't that overstep the bounds of personal freedom/the constitution or something? Seems ridiculous.
Yeah to be honest I'm pretty sure a contract is pretty much void if any of it conflicts with any federal/state regulations. And from how shady that sounds, it would appear that company is probably breaking a few of them. Especially the charging for "required company uniforms"
That sounds so fucked up, all of it.
Damn people with their damn school pictures, dammit. I thought I had landed a cool job :(
... Guess I'm still at a grocery store
Quit.
Do freelance work and try and sell photos to printing sites such as unknown prints, and perhaps try and get a job helping a wedding photog or another studio. You will learn more and have more fun than working for that fucked up studio.
It's probably a great feeling to work for a studio and get paid.
But to be honest I would much rather make a name for myself and do things my way, and basically do things the way my customers would want.
Because then you have just that much more freedom, hell even doing it for free gives me such an indescribable amount of satisfaction.
Can anyone suggest what my three best(digital) photos on Flickr are?
I'm submitting some of my photos to a printing site and I'm no good at judging what my own best shots are.

not sure on a third, i really like the film ones on pages 2 / 3, they have a strong vibe going for them. i think that a lot of your more recent ones are fairly generic (no offence) and you should try to go more stylistic.
I know that when I do model shoots I feel like I die a little on the inside, because although the photos that I end up with most people would call 'good' I don't feel like I'm portraying my personal style very well, as I (think I) do in my street / candid stuff.
