Thanks DoubleDD.
I tend to go in phases of shooting black and white - whether it's film or digital.
Probably ends up being around 50% of my shots.
Only thing is, when shooting B&W on digital, I set my camera to monochrome. I don't like converting them later. I like being restricted to SHOOTING in black and white, rather than converting them later.
I know I could lose a lot of pp options when doing that, but you tend to look for different things in Black and White.
My favourite shot I've ever taken was black and white:

Yeah I set mine to monochrome in-camera too. Seeing the result in color and converting it later seems a bit like cheating or something. I think it's also a bit more adventurous in some way.
Anyway, I just went for a stroll through town. Not much was going on but I got some pictures.
I'll see if I like them or not.
Is there any way to make the camera shoot in monochrome but keep the color data? It's something that always bothered me. I feel if I shoot just in monochrome I might be losing good shots simply because I can't convert them back to color.
It seems as if it would be as simple as just going all the PP on the camera in real time.

nothing special, just thought the photo looked sweet

raw + jpeg?
raw + jpeg?
Yeah this.
The jpeg will be monochrome, but the raw file will keep its data
On my camera, if I shoot monochrome with RAW, it's black and white on camera until I open it up in Photoshop/Lightroom. Pretty sure Dai had this problem too.
So I finally got a break before I have some more finals so I took some photos to help me relax and unwind. I love my Pandas, especially since their SOOC.

Got a tripod and so I decided to use it at night.

The second one is nice, and the 3rd would be great if it wasn't for that massive light in the foreground.
Personally I like that light, otherwise I feel the scene would have been quite bland.

Color fringing?
Sloppy processing.
It looks pretty shit to be honest, I want to see the original. I'm sure it's better.
If that's color fringing then it's some very strange color fringing. First of all because color fringing doesn't look like that, and second of all because there's basically no contrast on that edge at all.
Blergh. Should have shot this at a higher shutter speed.

Looks really awkwardly framed.
it's cropped
I know :v:
I'm jealous that you can just go out and see a moose like that.
I can go out and see a fuckton of deer.

Shoot raw.
[editline]24th May 2011[/editline]
raw + jpeg?
Don't even need to shoot raw+jpeg, just shoot raw. It will be monochrome on camera but all of the data is still in the raw. If you use the Canon (I assume the same goes for Nikon) software you can apply it to the actual raw file, but I prefer to use Lightroom to tweak individual luminance values for the best contrast.

Yeah well I can go out and see geese and ducks!
The most exciting thing around here (Milton Keynes, England) is probably herons, I should get around to processing and posting some of my photos of them. There is a brook leading to a lake running right by my house where they fish, so pretty much every time I go out I can snap some pictures of them. (I'm not sure if it's just one heron, or multiple)

Taken on the way to Tesco.
Excellent use of lines
Went up to a waterfall not too far away from where I live. Brought the ladyfriend.

Did a little post, cropped it a lot and this resulted. Not sure if I like how her hair turned out.
The composition could be better and the bokeh is about as smooth as sandpaper
lady friend is nice tho

At least I've got one thing going for me.
Yeah I didn't like the bokeh either. Not really sure what to do about it, though :/
It's the crop that makes the bokeh look jenk. Upload the full, non-cropped original and post it with the largest dimension being 640px.
Please and thank you.
