Basing your inspiration solely on other peoples work is rather pretentious. If you're going to base everything off others, you're going to get bored really quick. It's when you take something that's completely yours, do you realize that photography is awesome. I find my shots least rewarding when I can easily compare it to something else.
Somehow I don't feel like the pretentious one here.
Somehow I don't feel like the pretentious one here.
Not trying to argue man, I wasn't calling you pretentious. I was stating that you'll have trouble finding your own motivation when you're too busy trying to rehash something that's been done by another person. There's absolutely nothing wrong with taking what someone else has done, and using it to your advantage. But when you're replicating others work, you're creating a block in your creativity. This goes all the way back to why most people should avoid using the rule of thirds when they begin photography. It creates a crutch, and the more you center your work around others, the more you'll ignore what you personally find pleasing. I can recall countless times where I ignored what I felt would look nice, just so I could take something that resembles someone Else's work. Your photos always look underexposed, though I guess it better to underexpose than overexpose. Regardless, they look very nice. Experiment a bit, I'm sure you can find a way to enjoy landscape photography.
play about with them if you want

I see where cueball is coming from though. Sometimes when I take a picture of something that in itself is incredibly beautiful like a landscape I feel like I'm not really doing any work with it. Also I think we're a little too hard on him.

I started my 365 yesterday but I didn't have access to a computer to upload my picture from yesterday. I was stuck in a car for a few hours so I played around with my exposures and stuff just to pass time. 1 by John Gramza, on Flickr I also have today's as well, a very stereotypical macro shot of a flower. 2 by John Gramza, on Flickr And I finally got a good use of the tilt shift effect that comes with my camera. Model House by John Gramza, on Flickr Any C&C appreciated
Tilt shift house is nice. But the rest didn't need to be posted IMO. They are just really blurry and out of focus.

And yes most the flower is out of focus, but I like how bokehlicious it is at f1.8 and I really liked how it turned out. Plus it's very hard to MF a lens with 30 mph+ winds blowing your subjects all over the place.

Hey everyone, First time checking out the photography sub-forum (I honestly didn't even know we had one). I just wanted to post a few of my pictures that i've taken. I use my iPhone 4 to take all my pictures. Hopefully i'll move up to a better more "professional" camera in the future, but for now this is all I have. I literally have hundreds of photos waiting to be uploaded. Let me know if this is too many, i'll edit my post to just links. Also, one last thing, i've recently created a deviantART account. I plan on eventually uploaded everything i've taken, plus any new ones that will be taken further down the road. http://grumbles106.deviantart.com/ Thanks for viewing!

I took this little set of pictures about a year ago and all of them have this damn pole blocking the view, I dunno what I was thinking.
