Why did you rate me dumb H4Z3Y?
1) who honestly gives a fuck about ratings, I know I don't spend any more than 5 seconds thinking before rating a post
2) I thought that your first 2 photos were quite 'dumb', very blurry, out of focus, etc

Mmmm I have a sweet spot for vintage looking photography even if it's post processed. Kinda "hipster" but that term can apply for alot of things now.

I wasn't taking it to heart I just wanted to know why, that's all. And next time I will focus them better since that seems to be hated about those photos.

I am overjoyed. It feels so amazing compared to my old 400D. I've just been sitting here admiring it while the battery is recharging.
Too bad it's pissing down rain atm and I'm too scared to take it outside for some shots.
wow
congrats bro!
£5 for a reverse mount makes a pretty decent macro lens for my 50 1.8. Drawback being the focus is one set area so I can't seem to bring more into focus, which would have benefited the Sennheiser macro a lot more imo.

Heh heh heh. I got bored so decided to go to Jessops.

It's sooo sharp!
you will jizz yourself over the sharpness
Then I'd guess you'd explode over the 50mm f/1.4's sharpness.
The 1.8 isn't thaaat sharp.

Compared to my kit it's a pretty big improvement.
stopped down it's super sexy
I love using my 50 1.4 at 1.8, it gets nice and sharp and still has a nice shallow dof.
Also handed in a C.V. to the Jessops - doubt they would ever call me for anything lol.
I love using my 50 1.4 at 1.8, it gets nice and sharp and still has a nice shallow dof.
we don't all have £250 for an extra stop
we don't all have £250 for an extra stop
Actually it's 2/3 of a stop.
But it also has USM, better build, slightly sharper etc...
Actually it's 2/3 of a stop.

Closer to 3/4.
But yeah I've had both lenses in question, and while the 1.8 is worth every penny, the 1.4 is worth every extra penny. There is an immediate difference in overall image quality between them. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the 1.2. Maybe I haven't used that enough but besides the extra light and slightly shallower DOF, there wasn't as much of a negligible difference as there is between the 1.8 and 1.4.
Overall I'd say the 1.4 is a completely justifiable purchase, even if you already have a 1.8.

*a lot sharper, espcially with the Nikon 50mm f/1.4 D.

50mm f/1.4 D on the left and 50mm f/1.8 D on the right, both at f/1.8.

maybe one day but right now i can't justify spending £250 on a lens which im sure is much better, when the one I have is fine
Photos like that really annoy me because I suck giant cock
Let me elaborate, it was really late at night and I don't know why I said that
I hate the fact that objects that are the same distance from the camera will be in different parts of the dof
it's so obviously edited that I hate it.

I don't really care too much about ratings, but they are a lot more personal in a section like this.
I try not to rate every post I think it dumb in here.
Haven't shot in a while. Took this today.

You should upload your photos to Flickr or 500px so they are easier to view and share. Some of your photos are nice but some have really weird framing like paraspyoraikina.
Hey guys. Been away for some time now and I feel the need to contribute. This is what I'm working on ATM. My photography school is having a exhibition July 10th and I need to finish this idea. My plan was to take a couple of shots with the hands coming up from the dirt, surrounding trees and stuff. I've asked several ground schools and a university if I could lend a Fox. Just to add some symbolic creepiness to the pictures.
This is a test I just did to find out if it looked okay. The editing is still not 100% finished, so theres some issues here and there (shadow on the hand far right).
But please let me know what you think of this idea/concept! That would help me alot!

I like the idea but the feel is too distant, I think the hands might be too high key in a relatively low key environment. I think it would carry better if you were to dirty up the hands, possibly wrap ivy around the fingers and mess with the mood, go for a fantasy edge.

The 1.8 isn't thaaat sharp.
The Canon 50mm 1.4 and 1.8 are on-par in terms of sharpness on crop bodies.. The 1.4 is a really old and pretty bad lens now, with its fake USM motor. The 50mm 1.8 is pretty much perfect - fast auto focus (Although it is noisy), great sharpness and very little CA.
http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Our-publications/DxOMark-reviews/DxOMark-review-Which-50mm-lens-for-my-camera/Canon-Mount
Also, the 50 1.8 is probably the sharpest lens you can get for anywhere near £85.

The reason you're seeing such a difference I believe is because the 50mm 1.8 is quite bad compared to the 1.4 on FF bodies. However most people here don't own a 5D so there's not much point apart from the extra light.
