it says its DX compatible.
DX is the sensor size, it doesn't mean it has the AF-D focus screw.
DX is the sensor size, it doesn't mean it has the AF-D focus screw.
so it has to say AF-S for it to work?
so it has to say AF-S for it to work?
Yes. Just get the 18-55 kit lens, it's just as light, so great for travelling.
Yes. Just get the 18-55 kit lens, it's just as light, so great for travelling.
well, shiiiiiiiiit dawg. Is there any other lens makers that make AF nikon comparable lenses
well, shiiiiiiiiit dawg. Is there any other lens makers that make AF nikon comparable lenses
Just get a second hand 35mm f/1.8 for a similar cost, the 50mm f/1.8 AF-S is too new for any second hand deals, but the price is pretty low already.
Yeah get the 35 1.8. On the crop sensor it becomes about 50mm, and it will auto-focus on your body.
Yeah get the 35 1.8. On the crop sensor it becomes about 50mm, and it will auto-focus on your body.
yeah, that looks like the one for me. And with a DX sensor, it wont even crop! Thats FX sensor cameras. I have one question though. Is it fixed? Can it not zoom at all? Also, I already got the 18-55. Should I just stick to that?
yeah, that looks like the one for me. And with a DX sensor, it wont even crop! Thats FX sensor cameras. I have one question though. Is it fixed? Can it not zoom at all? Also, I already got the 18-55. Should I just stick to that?
Yes it will. You have a camera with a DX sensor so it will crop. Even if the lens is DX. The 35mm advertised on the lens is in full-frame which with Nikon is an FX sensor. So with a 35mm lens it will be approximately 50mm on a DX sensor. So remember, no matter what the lens says, take the focal length and multiply it by 1.5, and that is your real focal length on a crop sensor.

I'll rent the lens! check it out :buddy: :http://www.borrowlenses.com/product/nikon_wide_angle/nikon_35_1.8
-snippysnip- nevermind I misinterpreted some stuff.
Where is a good place to buy a second-hand lens in Australia? Anyone know?
Hey guys, I've been lurking around the forums for a long time now and the Photography section in particular for the past month or so. See all the amazing pictures you guys take inspired me to take some too. There's nothing amazing, this is the first time I've done any photography outside of my house. My brother had a band concert and I went out to the playground for the other few. I took a lot more, but these were the only ones that stood out to me. I haven't edited them, although I do have Photoshop (I don't know how to use it at all). I used my mom's D5000, and after my graduation I plan on getting a D90 or a 5100 I don't really know yet. Any advice you guys could give me would be great. I plan on going into town to get some more shots sometime this week, too sick to be bothered right now though. One thing I can say for sure is that in my opinion the d90 is the way to go. I was trying to choose between the two about a month ago and ended up going for the d90. Sure the 5100 boasts more mega pixels,.... has lots of new impressive features like full HD video... and actually quite a few things. But in the end for me the fact is has a larger view finder is a big deal, and of course the most important thing that influenced my decision is that the d90 has an internal focus motor. This is kind of a big deal... If you plan on using auto-focus it's gonna broaden your potential choice of lenses quite significantly. And it's going to eliminate the problem Labbet is having now with his camera not being fully compatible with lenses like the 50mm f/1.8D Autofocus Lens. Plus from what I've seen, D lenses tend to be cheaper than G lenses, so in the end you may end up saving some money. Plus a lens is for 'life' but a body isn't, going for the d90 so you can invest in some internal focus system lenses is probably many times more future proof. Anyway, sorry for the essay. You look like you have a good eye, keep it up dude. Photography is lots of fun. :D
