It's very well composed, but the overly bright left hand side is very distracting. Needs a bit more contrast imo.

I actually like that a lot. I think it makes the shot a bit more interesting, even though there could be more contrast. and the right corners look vignetted.

What kind of a camera do you have?

was using a Nikon D7000 with a 35mm 1.8 lens for all of the shots. First two were shot at f/8, the rest were mostly f/3.5

You start a big fuss and then when people correct you you get rude towards them? they were helping you and you weren't being nice back tot hem. And if anything he was being direct, not rude.

That is true to an extent, however if i were so true then how do photographers have jobs? how do the people in this thread manage to take interesting photos? It's about taking what is in front of you in a way unique to you. If you take me fro example, I think that I'm an average/ok photographer with a few nice shots. Sure the shots that I take may have been done before, but not in the way that I have done them. If this isn't a limit to me, who is far further down the track than you, then why does it matter to you? (not trying to sound arrogant, I'm stating facts).

At the end of the day a photo will look as generic as you make it. A shitty photo of a phone, a macro of a patch of grass and a blurry shot of a berry in a tree aren't going to ever be any good, simply because they ARE shit subjects.

If you want some suggestions you should try more styles than just shitty-macro-of-my-phone photography. Try portraiture, street, landscape, long exposure, flash, sunrise/sunset, indoors, music. And that's just to name a select few.
