Anyway! Going to be doing some photography for an Edinburgh magazine during the Fringe period - woo!

The first one is so awesome!
As for some critiques on the other 3:
The second one is a bit too blown out and the person (you?) could have been a bit farther left.
Third one is also really good. I'm really digging the pose. Only complaint is that the face is under a shadow and when put next to the bright background makes it less of the subject.
Last one is pretty good, but it would be made better if the background was blurred some more since the trees by the face are still too prominent. Maybe if the subject was on the other side of the road where the trees are much more distant (this also helps balance the shot a bit more).
They are still really good, but my personal favorite is the first one.

what are the ideal settings for a night shot?
without all the equipment, etc.

What's your kit and are you using a tripod?

What do you mean by "without all the equipment"? Because a tripod is sort of essential to night photography.

A shot I took today in China. I finally got some internet. Here's a teaser of what's to come. This is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm leaving it SOOC since I don't want to change anything about it.
I've been messing around with panoramic stitching, and it's been bothering me for a bit. Here is an example of the stuff i've done. Is it any good? And before you say anything, YES IT IS THE FACEPUNCH STUDIO'S OFFICE.

hiked a little mountain to try and get pictures of the sunset with all the clouds that were in the sky, but putting my tripod on rocks led me with some slightly crooked pictures (that and the 30mph wind), but I came out with a shot I was happy with

Thanks so much for the crits. I was honestly contemplating whether or not I should have even posted the second shot, I took what you had to say and toned it down.
The lighting was a bitch to get in the third one, I was having trouble getting both pose and lighting to work together to my advantage.
I definitely see what you mean with the last, I'm definitely going to have to look at depth more.
the lightning ended up exactly where I wanted it in this one

Also all those are great DonMitchito
Dai, how do I get a website like yours?
the gallery type I have is just the full version of the lightroom web gallery preset "simpleviewer", the website itself is Invictus theme for Wordpress, with lots of under-the-hood tweaking.
and to answer the question on how to shoot the fireworks like I did, just have a wide aperture, manual bulb exposure, and re-adjust your focus to increase and decrease the bokeh, of course.

I like this but there's some fringing on their heads. You got the white balance spot on though, snow pictures are hard.
I like this but there's some fringing on their heads. You got the white balance spot on though, snow pictures are hard.
It's because he shot at 18mm with the widest aperture, at 1/6400, lol, althrough I don't see any fringing, B-Hazard.
Oh you mean the glowing from PP.
Ok then he needs to get further away using a higher focal length and also correct the glowing in PP.
Ok then he needs to get further away using a higher focal length and correct the glowing.
I thought you meant colour fringing.
it looks a bit like the halos you get from using the high pass filter

Both.
it looks a bit like the halos you get from using the high pass filter
Looks like the halos from the highlights and shadows thing in photoshop, the halos from the high pass filter are easy to get rid of and control.
Can someone point me to an 'all you need to know' tutorial about night photography.
Or tell me that i'm asking the wrong questions so i can begin to ask the right ones. :3

Use a sturdy tripod. I use 2 second timer and mirror lockup to minimise camera shake. Shoot at a slower aperture (more sharpness) and get your focus perfect. Press the button and grab a drink. Take a few sips as the photo is taken. Shoot raw for maximum flexibility.

I feel cramped looking at it. I want to peak around the corners on the left and right so maybe zoom in a bit more is all you can do on a balcony? Lighting is good.
I like this but there's some fringing on their heads. You got the white balance spot on though, snow pictures are hard.
The real problem with snow pictures is the camera freaks out with all the white and under exposes so it all comes out grey.
I love snow and pictures of it, can't wait till winter.
Oh and in winter i'll be saying FUCK SNOW AND WINTER I WANT SUMMER SUN
