Ooooh, I like them much more than the stuff you have been posting before. These aren't quite as washed out, and the PP is awesome. Just like everyone else, I think the first is the best, but there's something about the last that caught my eye too.

Loving these tones.
The thread seems to be picking up again, inspiring work guys.
Snapped a shot of my friend playing with my puppy.

You have.
Hey there, the last week I decided it was time to take my camera off the shelf and start taking some photo's around.
Seeing I'm still pretty new, even though I've gone a year to Media school (A lot of photo classes), I think some criticism would help me out.
Here's some photo's I've taken the last week. They're all around 1920x1080, they're on my Dropbox though so I can resize them if they're too big.
Took this image while I was waiting to get on-board, I had just received my 200mm lens earlier that day so I thought this picture turned out somewhat neat.

This one was taken through the window of a car at 80km/h, which is my excuse on why It's somewhat blurry and a tad unfocused.
What I don't like about this picture is the gray color all over it, It was due to the really dirty airplane window, but I just had to snap a photo of this.

I got some others, but I'd rather not overflow the thread with images.

Are you shooting in JPEG or Sony's RAW format (either .ARW, .SR2, or .SRF)? If you aren't shooting RAW, I'd recommend it. It gives much more flexibility in editing, and if you get a program like Adobe Lightroom, or even just Windows Live Photo Gallery, you can retouch aspects of your photo like white balance and exposure, which would help improve photos like the one you said was too gray.

Yeah, I'm taking them in RAW, (.arw) I just didn't have time to edit it just yet, I'll try later though because I have a lot of nice photo's from that trip that's kinda ruined from that gray'ness

I'm gonna head out to a really nice place nearby and take some pictures of the sunset, Let's see how I'll do now that I'm actually going somewhere to take pictures rather then taking pictures on the way.

Man, I'm bored.
I guess I'll get much more response to this in here:
I can get this camera for 3000 DKK (converting to around 500$), and I would like to know whether you guys would know a better solution for me. I want to take pictures, and I feel very limited with a cell phone. I like to take photos though, and I don't mean photos of my friends and such. I read the thread about film vs DSLR, and I would also know a "definitive" answer to that (though I probably won't get it).
Sorry for kinda derailing, though.
Well, here's the not-shittiest pics off the first roll of film I've ever ran through an SLR:

Focus is actually "supposed to" be on the "Sheard" grave, the grey one in the centre.

Here are the ones that I didn't fuck up ISO setting on the camera too bad and that don't look too crap.

Here's one of a lightbulb's filament I took. The ISO setting on the camera is messed on this photo, should I try it again now that I know more about what I'm doing?
Also, this roll of film was, at my best guess, 22 years old when I put it in the camera.
The ISO setting will not change how your photos look, it will change how the light-meter reports exposure. That's all it does.
The ISO setting will not change how your photos look, it will change how the light-meter reports exposure. That's all it does.
yeah, the film will react the same way in any situation regardless of your ISO setting, but the shutter speed would either under or overexpose your shot, probably not giving you your desired result.
Changing ISO only affects the real quality of a shot if we're talking digital.

This picture needs scale.
Same cliffs, but with a person, to show the size and contrast and scale. A sign at an odd angle just makes it look like a bunch of rocks.
Another thing, I could say, is that there's too much black and contrast at the top of your image, it would be better to keep the same level of contrast, but less blacks, to make the image feel more balanced.

But what effects would that have on the photo? It over/underexposes, wouldn't that lead to grainyness/whiteness depending?
EDIT:
Dai explained it fine, nevermind.
But what effects would that have on the photo? It over/underexposes, wouldn't that lead to grainyness/whiteness depending?
in regards to film, changing the ISO setting on the camera will misinform its judgement of shutter speed. The film is obviously stuck at one ISO, you have to choose that in the first place.
Changing the ISO (or if your camera has it, the EV+/- rating which does the same thing but keeps your ISO the correct number for reference) will lead to over/underexposed pictures, yes. Sometimes it's what you want, but in this case I think it will just end up with a really dim lightbulb or a bright white blob.
If you have your shutter speed manually set, there will be no changes made by moving your ISO or EV around since you're manually setting everything, but you will notice the light meter suggesting different settings, plus you might forget what ISO/ASA the film is and manually set the wrong numbers yourself.
Also, now that I'm done making an ass of myself, what can the community here tell me of the photos I took? Considering it's the first time I've used an SLR, I'd love some C&C.
Also, now that I'm done making an ass of myself, what can the community here tell me of the photos I took? Considering it's the first time I've used an SLR, I'd love some C&C.
I actually like the third one, though centering the horizon right through the middle of your picture isn't the best idea. the shot makes me want to see a little more down, with all the rubble around. The filament shot is also interesting, but running it through a program to reduce the noise may yield a better result. I know the film was old and grainy, but you gotta work with what you got.
i think the lightbulb one is kinda cool actually
[editline]8th July 2011[/editline]
maybe if it was a bit less overexposed
