How to solve police militarization complaints: Let them all wear jeans

I can't stand wearing jeans anymore since I started wearing 5.11 tac pants. So comfortable, and really utilitarian. They look really decent too.

Or cops with shorts (this was in the recent Munich attack)

That is an ancient scope or maybe even laser on the far-right MP-5.
Don't they know the reflective vests only protect you from vehicles, not bullets?
Shows how woefully unprepared they are for this sort of thing; "Lets give them MP-5s, handguns and....reflective vests."
Better than nothing I suppose...

They're cops, they dont need to wear camo, they arent trying to hide from the shooter. Its more important for them to be able to ID each other, especially if theyre wearing civilian clothes like shorts.

I understand that that is why they're wearing them, and it's the thing they need to do especially after examples like Paris and Orlando, but the neon coloration and lack of body armor was my point. Why didn't they have armor vests with POLEZI on them ready to go in their vehicles or wherever they got the MP5s from?
US cops manage to do that without looking like a traffic cone, and just about every agency as well, they all just have agency lettering in big white letters.

I always wondered why GSG9 have the policy of responding at any time and thus being in civilian style clothes a lot of the time. Other CTUs like FBI SWAT or GIGN are usually in a standard uniform, which makes me want to know what the effectiveness of GSG9 is compared to other units.

That isn't GSG9 though, those are Dutch 'arrestatieteams', similar in purpose to SWAT teams. Does GSG9 walk around in casual clothing under their equipment too? I think I've mostly seen photos of GSG9 members in standard uniforms

GSG9 have been seen in civilian clothing sometimes but they normally don't respond in civilian gear because they aren't immediate first responders. The SEK, MEK and BFE on the other hand are quite commonly the first tactical units to respond and so you see them in civilian gear a lot;

Ah my mistake, didn't notice the "Poltie"
But GSG9 do the civ clothing as well. They even have a sneaker made by Adidas.

Still though the point remains, are units that do first response more effective at dealing with situations? I don't think I've ever heard of SWAT teams using civilian clothes to get there fast in the US. They almost always wear a uniform.
Some of the US SWAT uniforms are pretty bizarre in my opinion, I remember Boston SWAT team members wearing MARPAT and UCP during the Boston Marathon bomber search. Like, why would you be wearing that as SWAT?

Fucking ATACS, it's a change from multicam and other digital stuff but jesus christ fucking atacs. It was like watching blobs of photoshop watercolor filters walking around and clinging to vehicles

More cost effective to just slap police patches on than have them custom tailored to the department.
There is no branch of the US military that uses A-TACS though, they apparently went out of their way to buy A-TACS for their SWAT team, it couldn't have been surplus stuff like the MARPAT or the UCP uniforms :v:
if you're going to buy completely new uniforms why not just go for navy blue or black, I mean, wouldn't that be cheaper than fucking A-TACS uniforms anyway?
GSG-9 are generally considered the best police special unit in the world. Tacticool gear =//= actually knowing your shit. GSG-9 does the latter, U.S. Sheriff Departments specialize in the former.
[editline]23rd July 2016[/editline]
Also police in camo is gross. Literally the only part of 'police militarization' that I disagree with. Police is never in a situation where wearing mulletcam would help the general effort, navy blue or black for easy, quick identification is what they should wear.

it definitely feels like the U.S. SWAT teams just go for shit that looks cool, unlike a lot of the European special police units like the German or Dutch ones
Every US Police Department SWAT team should just go with the LAPD Metro SWAT look

To hide their identity to prevent retaliatory attacks against officers' homes and families.

LAPD SWAT is probably one of the best regional US SWAT teams given their budget/training/equipment and the fact that they see a lot of action.

Wait a sec, their trousers aren't even bloused! You fucking shitbags, get in the front-leaning rest!
Managed to pick me up a great condition MAS-36/51, super excited. Got some ammo on the way to boot. I'll get pictures soon.
