Looks almost the same as this gun from F.E.A.R.

I'm 90% sure they loosely based it off it.

I know it's a civvie version of the G36 series but I fucking love the aesthetic of the SL9
That reminds me:
With Valve now respecting the SPAS as an semiauto-shotty (ie L4D2), I wonder what they would do with HL3. You think they're going to keep the SPAS as a double barrel shotgun, keep the SPAS and change it to an semi/pump shotgun, or do you think they're just going to get another gun to fill the double barrel alt fire role.
It seems like both the art design and the alt-fire are too iconic for the series for them to want to get rid of it.

Assuming valve actually makes HL3, I don't think they will change the shotgun to be semi, simply for balance and because it's been that way since HL1.
[editline]Also, there is a rare pump-only variant of the SPAS called the SAS-12 (Slide Action Shotgun), so if HL2's shotgun is actually a SAS-12, it being pump-only does make sense.[/editline]
Interestingly there is a semi version of the SPAS-12 called the SAS-12, but it doesn't look very similar to the SPAS.
I feel like they're probably just going to leave it the same and keep being wrong.
The guns and gunplay in Valve-developed games have never been particuarily good. They never seem to have really bothered focusing on that.
In games not actually developed by Valve themselves (CS:GO, L4D, L4D2) it's better, but still not great. At least there's more attention to detail paid towards the guns in those games.

What about it firing two shells at once, though? :v:

One of the theories is that Gordon fires it in pump-only mode is because he's a scientist and probably has no idea how the SPAS-12 works.
I think it's just because Valve don't really give a shit how the gun works and chose to give it the secondary attack for the sake of gameplay.

kind of a neat aircraft
a weapon in its ability to supply tons and tons of stuff, the stratofreighter is kind of a cool looking plane, essentially a b-29 turned into a cargo plane minus half the fires
also NASA made a few of them able to eat rocket parts, greatly speeding up the space program by reducing assembly time and allowing further quality testing, they're still in use today, and inspired several modern variants of the super-guppy
its a pretty prolific aircraft being still in service at least with NASA, probably their oldest aircraft in service
maybe the resistance modified it to be able to shoot 2 shots at once for some reason, with the drawback being it needs to be pumped
how? it only has 1 barrel, you can only ever get so much boom per shot
if hl3 ever is made, a semi-auto double barrel boomstick would be pretty kickass...now that i say that, fallout 4 better have a semi-auto double barrel boomstick also
maybe the resistance modified it to be able to shoot 2 shots at once for some reason, with the drawback being it needs to be pumped
and the smg has a gripnade launcher because vortigaunts are really good at tech yeah
Of course, there's probably a miniature portal inside it that replaces the spent shell with another live one and immediately fires it. That's got to be the answer.
I really don't think Valve give even the remotest of fucks about how guns work in their games. I wonder if anyone's ever actually emailed them and gotten a response on why the shotgun works like it does, though.
What about it firing two shells at once, though? :v:
Black Mesa reasons it by making it fire 2 shots in extremely quick succession.
If you listen to the double-shot sound in Half Life 1 too, you can hear that theres 2 shots in quick succession. Dont know if they intended that though.
Burst fire shotguns, that's pretty Shadowrun.
not sure if cool or just pos
Not sure if awful because it's half 1911, or awesome because it's half G3.
Either way, calling it innovation or a revolution or whatever is silly. Only major innovation in handgun design we've had since 1935 is the Boberg design.
Roller locked handgun, those aren't very common.
More a roller delay than a roller lock. In a roller lock you're actually using sets of rollers for your locking lugs on a recoil/gas action, with a roller delay there's no actual lock and the rollers are just there to provide mechanical disadvantage on the bolt.
Roller locks are actually even rarer than roller delays, basically all that was made on them aside from some Nazi prototypes were the MG-34 and MG-42, and the CZ.52 pistol. The systems are still often confused though due to their similarities and the near nonexistence of roller locks compared to the prevalence of roller delays (basically everything derived from the G3/MP5).

Also, CZ.52 is easily the sexiest eastern bloc pistol.

Pretty sure they went with pump action cause it just feels great
BLAM *chk-chk* BLAM
and also yeah valve don't know shit about guns, they operate on Hollywood logic and tbh as much as I love realism I'm 100% fine with that personally
it's a sci fi almost B movie tier tale about one nerd with a PhD in pressing buttons taking on a sinister alien dictatorship not a Michael Mann movie :v: seeing tactical mag flips and shit would feel as wrong as it would in the TV studio scene in They Live IMO (which I can't find a clip of and I'd rather not risk posting an entire movie here cause the ban hammer is swift)
Roller locked handgun, those aren't very common.
Kind of overkill, the mp5 does that but it's a smg, other than the high rate of fire it allows I guess the advantage is you have a fixed barrel, otherwise its just the same delayed blowback action everybody else has just using a different geometry for the delaying system
I'm surprised with how much that looks like a clone of the insides of the mp5 that they didn't have to license it

The patent on the MP5 expired in the 1980s.
Lmfao why is that suppressor so long
[editline]8th November 2015[/editline]
The pistol itself looks cool but nothing revolutionary imo; what sort of advantages does this have over simpler pistols?

I suggest you look up how suppressors work bro'ski ;)

I'm well-aware of how suppressors work, Condescending Dan, but why does that thing need to be ~3" longer than, say, an Osprey .45

Speaking of Korth, they got this wonky looking thing:

Don't know anything about it other than it's named 'Classic Pistol'

I'd prefer pictures to a pretentious artsy-fartsy video, though it seems like there aren't any of that blocky piece of goodness.

Maximum suppression, obviously.
