too bad of all the matrix guns, those were completely fake
too bad of all the matrix guns, those were completely fake
They're not fake, they were fully functional custom made 12-gauge machine guns that had to be registered according to this interview with the film's armorer, John Bowring
MATRIX: You mentioned earlier that you made the fully functional Mouse guns for the first film.
JOHN: We made the Mouse guns as fully operative 12 gauge machine guns, using an electric motor to drive them, a cam system to fire them, and a cylinder with a pistol grip in the center. As an added little touch, when we registered these, which we have to do, we gave them the serial numbers to equate to Larry and Andy, the names of the two Directors. The serial number for this one is L2779, so that’s Larry.
MATRIX: Are those guns being used at all in the sequels?
JOHN: No. They wanted to take them back to the US, but you can’t take fully automatic weapons back into America if they weren’t already there, so they had to stay here. They’re something we designed specially for the film, there’s never been anything like it: a cam operated, electrically driven 12 gauge shot gun, holding 25 rounds per cylinder.
JOHN: These guns were made to look different. Originally the Directors wanted two shotguns that were Street Sweeper style, which is a South African shotgun / flare gun. But you can’t operate Street Sweepers fully automatically, they’re semi automatic, you have to pull the trigger each time to fire them. They wanted them both to fire automatically as Mouse went down, so those criteria demanded that we come up with something fully automatic.
MATRIX: Did the Directors give you any direction in the design?
JOHN: Only that they liked the cylinder look of the Street Sweeper, so they were built up from that. They weren’t ever taken to any degree of finish, they needed to be anodized rather than painted, and those sorts of niceties don’t necessarily happen for film.
You've seen the DP12, you've seen two Remington 870s strapped together, but have you seen this?

how long does it take to clear a jam
[editline]30th March 2016[/editline]
better question: how long does it take to identify the problem in the event of a jam
Better question: how long does it take to turn the enemy into jam
Better better question: how does jam?
Pump up the jam, pump it up while your feet are stomping, and the jam is pumpin'
So it comes with a free broken shoulder? I mean I can't imagine the recoil from 2 12-gauges and w/e the big boys are at once is pleasant
too bad of all the matrix guns, those were completely fake
Nah, those are completely possible. Oddly enough, the guys in Al Darra(Khyber Pass), sometimes manufacture them if you make an honest to god request for them.
Prop that against a chair in front of your door with a string and the next guest will be unidentifiable.
And your door will be missing.

Anyone need four 290mm missiles?
i know it wouldnt happen but i just love imagining it flying backwards super hard, as if it was a gmod prop and someone prop smashed it when it fires

Missile launching armored vehicles all look like something out of gmod

Patriot Missile Launchers are greeble-y as hell
to be fair, that isn't some cheapo russian shiite, its a missile that in theory hits balistic missiles as well as just about anything else that can get airborn so its got a lot going on there
Patriot isn't a ballistic missile.

It ain't theory.

Ya it's been proven against scuds and the Hamas space program but it's also deployed against much more potentially sophisticated systems in eastern Europe and the middle East and Asia, taking down ballistic missiles isn't nearly as clear cut as taking down planes and it's not like we can test it against its intended targets, so it's sort of always works in theory till proven
Patriot has been tested against a specially built test ballistic missile made from the second and third stages of a Minuteman II missile.

It's the Juno variant of a Hera missile. Russia has been kicking up shit about it because they feel it violates the Intermediate Ranged Forces treaty.

That stock looks uncomfortable as hell though. The butt's so tiny and you've got the back of the buffer tube poking into your cheek when you aim.
unfortunately I never got to sit in one of those

It's supposed to be a AR-15 derived PDW, not a Range Rover.

Maybe today it's just not as impressive but like literally everyone and their grandparents have made some big chunky "goes everywhere" metal brick at this point
Soldier Systems and Recoil is reporting that the US Army is going to select a variant of the HK417 for the Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System program
It’s beyond rumor at this point. According to multiple sources familiar with various aspects of the program, H&K’s entry for the Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System (CSASS) program was selected earlier this week for procurement by the United States Army. Other finalists were LMT and FNH USA.
The entry, named the G28E1, was displayed at SHOT Show in H&K’s booth. Interestingly, it incorporates an OSS Suppressor.
I think it'd be kinda weird that they'd choose a gun that requires new expensive magazines and uses a proprietary modular rail system that looks like a backward keymod. They could have just modified the existing M110s with a shorter barrel and a collapsible stock. It's not like the M110 is that old anyways.
Edit:
It's official now
Heckler & Koch Defense Inc., Ashburn, Virginia, was awarded a $44,500,000 firm-fixed-price contract with options for Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System spare parts, training, and government purpose rights. Bids were solicited via the Internet with eight received with an estimated completion date of March 30, 2022. Funding and work location will be determined with each order. Army Contracting Command, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, is the contracting activity (W15QKN-16-D-0051).
Yeah, I don't see why the SR25 needs to be replaced already. It's less than a decade old, reliable and dead accurate.
[editline]1st April 2016[/editline]
Especially with overpriced H&K stuff.
I really love the Sub-2000 for some reason.

Looking it up, apparently the US Army wants a battle rifle carbine to issue to sniper spotters to use along side the M110. They want it to weigh 9lb unloaded.

It can be done, depending on what kind of accuracy they want it to achieve. Hell Adams arms makes a piston gun that comes in at 7.5lbs with a pencil barrel.
