the french take the cake on terrible machineguns
behold the St. Etienne 1907, the world's worst blow-forward machinegun

now supposidly blow-forward on a mounted gun isn't as terrible as it is on a pistol, but the complexity introduced when your mechanism is moving in opposite direction as the recoil, combined with its stupendous ability to overheat, meant that lots of cooling slots and gears were added as well as a massive hole cut to expose the main spring to prevent it from failing. These "features" made the gun basically useless against dirt

As always, sounds good on paper, but shit execution in reality. Many machine gunners had to carry an extra hopper or two since the hopper design was fragile and gunked up easily. It also meant another soldier had to sacrifice his loadout to feed the gun.
The type 99 and 96 were pretty good. Way better than the BAR as a LMG.

I love that the Japanese put both a bayonet mount and a scope on them. It's a close combat LMG sniper!

According to Ian in that movie, their version of the Pedersen rifle apparently did come up with solutions for where the original Pedersen rifle fell short.
It was also superior in quality (which isn't saying much when we're talking about Japanese rifles, I know) and had great accuracy. But ultimately it turned out to be too expensive to put into service.

That's really fucking cool, is there any practical military use for it though?
That's really fucking cool, is there any practical military use for it though?
Raytheon claims that it has a range of over 2km and is laser guided. It's probably smaller, lighter, and cheaper than using a Javelin for soft targets and more accurate than a LAW/AT4 if it works as advertised

Smaller more expensive hellfire missile

Yeah, the magazine I get for being in the National Guard had an article on it, apparently it's meant for engaging soft/light armored vehicles and light structures. Not accurate enough to engage infantry, except maybe in groups.
It's cool stuff though. Weapon systems are getting lighter and more accurate all the time. Give this thing a decade or so in service and I'll bet it'll be accurate enough to engage man-sized targets at distance.
Warfare is always getting more and more lethal. I'm just glad I'm wearing the uniform doing the dishing out, rather than the taking.

This is actually why I hate keymod, cause it looks exactly like a slightly refined version of industrial racks. It's the cheapest goddamn thing that's well over a hundred dollars for a handguard.
I prefer picatinny, but I'd like to see something other than picatinny and keymod.

I like the look of M-Lok since it uses simple rectangular shapes for a clean look. It's easier to produce than keymod because of that and theoretically more stable
but I'd like to see something other than picatinny and keymod.
Why? What sort of reason would anyone have to go full fucking HK and invent yet another fucking system for slapping shit on a gun? Are there any flaws at all with picatinny that need to be rectified by yet another standard? It's going the god damn way of phone chargers in the mid-2000's where nothing fits anything, even within the same manufacturer.
I always thought technicals were cool as crap, I mean, it's a filthy pickup truck with machine guns, and somehow america didn't even come up with it, as american as it sounds
That's legitimately awesome.

You bet if we could get a hold of the shit they throw on technical, and we had large enough spaces to go ape shit, we would.
Then again personally if I could get a T-72 with an activate gun, and ammunition for it, and a large enough space, I'd get into competition tank shooting.
