Because she thinks things like Evolution, the LHC, and anything that proves religion is as accurate as Beowulf is evil.
Isn't the LHC going to be turned on this November?
Can you guys imagine what would happen if the LHC discovered something that completely disproves the existence of God or any other god and completely debunks all the religions on Earth?
All this time religious people always had the "You can't prove God doesn't exist." excuse but what if we discovered something that did?
It's going to be an awkward day.

A day that I dream of...
It looks much like a ton of neurons networked inside a brain.
Does that mean that there's a universe in my brain?
NASA hopes to start colonizing Mars in 2030 so we might see a colonized Mars in our lifetime(or atleast see the first human to step on Mars).
Why would anyone want to colonize there... unless they run a REALLY long bundle of fiber optic internet cables there...
[editline]11:43PM[/editline]
Oh wait satellites.. but that would take practically forever wouldn't it?

It would make a good base to start collecting resources from asteroid fields and such.

Lulled at the dumbasses giving you disagrees.

Dudeee....
Agreed. Our only limitation is the speed of light. Light that's further afield hasn't reached us yet, so we can't see it. It gradually just goes dimmer. It can be seen in the Hubble Deep Field.
We can see back in time close to the big bang. The only light which has not reached us yet or will never reach us is in regions of space which expand faster than light would need to travel to us.
Observable universe is most probably small compared to the complete size of the universe.
When you think about how many trillions (?) of planets exist, and take into account how fucking huge one trillion actually is, it's clear that we aren't the only living beings alive in the universe. I'm sure there's species that are even more advanced than we are; maybe they know what dark matter is, exactly what the edge of the universe is like, or how the universe began. This is a stretch, but maybe there's even a race that knows about us. When you take all of this into account how huge the universe is and think about it, no one's individual problems really matter that much.
If humans eventually do encounter aliens, how would it play out? They wouldn't have any hand gestures or anything to know if we were a threat or not. I think it's safe to assume we'll never have any war in space at least, considering it takes days just to get planets, let alone other solar systems and galaxies. I can't think of any possible way that we could have any sort of relationship with an alien race. It's really hard to actually wrap your head around things of this scale.
I have a really ignorant sister. She's one of those Religious nuts who think we're the only intelligent life and that trying to learn beyond our solar system and God is evil and a waste of money.
The universe is very mysterious and erotic, it's a shame there's people like her.
Having a blue sun would be awesome
The supermassive in the middle makes every galaxy "sexy" and beautiful.
Must have taken a long time to make. XD
lol the universe isn't so big
Thinks like this makes me wonder.. At first contact, nations are no longer important and we need to think of ourselves as a species. So who will represent us...?

I'm pretty sure that there are beings out there that are aware of us, and are observing us, but they don't visit or make themselves known because they figure we're not gonna understand and that we're too primitive a species to consider

Yeah, as long as these people don't use their views in politics and stuff.
Oh wait.

They just found a common Amino Acid on earth in debris from a fackin' Comet in space
Sorry but there's life elsewhere, probably plenty of it just in our galaxy alone

The two most common elements in the Universe are hydrogen and stupidity.

Fackin? I thought it was Focking.
Anyway, I think life is probably relatively common in the Galaxy, but it's INTELLIGENT life that is exceedingly rare.
The odds speak for them selves. In each solar system has multiplie planets (often) and in each galaxy there are countless solarsystems. and in the whole universe it is trilions of bilions of galaxys.
THERE IS OTHER FORMS OF CARBON BASED ORGANISMS OUT THERE. HUMANS --> CAN'T <-- BE THE ONLY INTELIGENT RACE IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE!

Coal? Ahahaha.
You mean Carbon (I know Coal primarily has Carbon in it.)

They probably gave him the disagrees because, we aren't there at all. That's the Andromeda Galaxy.
The density of the universe affects the future of the universe. If omega turns out to be more than one (meaning that there is more than one hydrogen atom per cubic meter) the universe will eventually stop expanding and contract forming a "closed"universe; that is, a universe with finite volume and mass. If omega is less than one (meaning that there is less than one hydrogen atom per cubic meter) the universe will expand forever and will eventually thin out forming an "open"universe. According to Einstein's theory, an "open" universe has a infinite volume and an infinite number of hydrogen atoms. However, if omega equals one, the universe is at the "critical density."The critical density is found to be
3H2/8πG = 5 × 10-30 grams cm-3 (3 hydrogen atoms per cubic meter)
where G is the universal gravitational constant. When the universe is at the critical density, it means that the universe will expand at precisely the right rate to avoid recollapse thus forming a "flat universe."Since the exact density of the universe is not known yet, different sources gave different results. An approximate density of the universe would be about equal to the critical density 5 × 10-30 g/cm3.
