Do you realize how much fun it would be to bust shit up in somewhere as fragile and expensive as an observatory?
Dude, fuck yes we should.
Can I tag along? I've only once been to an observatory and I thought it was cool. I was young at the time and scared to go in the big chair thingy :( I want another chance to go on one.

Better sit fast because that chair will be smashed into each and every single display monitor in the entire building before I'm finished.
Holy shit it would be so much fun just to smash shit up in an observatory.

In fact you wouldn't have to smash up the observatory stuff itself to have fun. I think smashing stuff (like a TV you brought into the observatory) in an observatory would be more fun than smashing stuff elsewhere.
This should be shown to all the people who think we are the center on the universe, or believe were the only sentient race.
But none of this contradicts them! What's the point again?
If you put the universe in a tube you would end up with a very long tube. Probably extending twice the length of the universe because when you collapse the universe it expands and you wouldn't want to put it into a tube.
Wow. My mind is fucking BLOW from that picture. It looks like neurons! That is fucking amazing.
Makes you think...
Makes you think...
It makes you realize. It makes you realize we are fucking small. It makes you realize while me may get to space and, maybe someday, Mars, we may never see the outside of our own solar system.
I have that picture as my wallpaper now and I may have to replace it because every time I see it I cannot FATHOM the size of the universe.
That pretty much sums up my entire group of thoughts
Yes, we are. Aliens don't exist.
There's no proves for aliens existens..
But there's neither no proves that they don't exist.
Proof.
But yeah, you have a point
I don't think humanity will ever get outside a few hundred light years away from the milky way galaxy, you gotta think, we will survive for up to another 5 billion years, and in the past 60 years we've launched multiple satellites in space that have now reached their destination, we've visited the moon, we have space stations...if we make these kind of improvements for the next 5 billion years, we will no doubt in my mind be able to travel at the speed of light. I talked to my dad on the phone and he rose an interesting point, if we are travelling at the speed of light and have constant propulsion (meaning it's not like a sprint, it's constant) we need something that calculates (a computer) shit faster than the speed of light, and currently the speed of light is the fastest speed obtainable. So for you tl;dr's, we need something faster than the speed of light to steer other wise crash
But...the universe is an infinum. It never ends. We will never explore it all. 5 billion years versus hundreds of trillions of googol's of lightyears. (To the infinite)
You know, if the cosmos within an immediate area and not infinite, I would surely say there isn't a god. But since it's infinite and it's power is unknown...maybe there is one? I don't know and I most likely never will.

And to think we are the only intelligent life throughout the universe.
"I say to those who think we are the only life, If the Big Bang spawned us, we had about a 1 in 60 hundred billion chance of evolving, surviving (blah blah blah)...Well, here's news for you: The universe is infinite."
Argh! Stop saying the fucking universe is infinite! No it's fucking not! There are boundaries! And even if it turns out there aren't then there is still a finite amount of matter in the universe.
Yes, the universe is fucking infinite, and if it isn't it might as well be since the boundaries are far beyond what the fuck we can understand, for instance if you look at my .gif it says there's a galaxy that shouldn't be able to exist because it defies the laws of physics, so you're obviously wrong
*Bunch of text that made me feel small*
In 5 billion years, humans will be extinct, whether by evolution or self-destruction, we will be gone.
Also, that .gif is amazing, I've seen the Hubble Ultra Deep Field before, but with all that other info around it it's just mindblowing.
In 5 billion years, humans will be extinct, whether by evolution or self-destruction, we will be gone.
I know, and that's one of the things I was saying, is that basically we have 5 billion years to explore the cosmos, figure out the meaning of life and corrupt humanity even more.
Give me proof and I will believe you.
Give me proof that there is. Until then, we are the only ones that exist.
Give me proof that there is. Until then, I'll assume that there isn't
Changed to a more rational phrasing. Aliens either exist or they don't, the only thing that can change is us knowing either way.
Argh! Stop saying the fucking universe is infinite! No it's fucking not! There are boundaries! And even if it turns out there aren't then there is still a finite amount of matter in the universe.
I've been arguing that a full page ago.

Wow, great proof there. Completely ignore the fact that space is EXPANDING. How the fuck can something that is infinitely large expand? It can't! Only things with boundaries can expand and things that are infinitely large, by definition, have none. Therefore things that are infinitely large can not expand.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble but I think I know more about this shit than you. Unlike you I'm actually working towards understanding this stuff.

Astronomy/Astrophysics Major?
Astronomy/Astrophysics Major?
No. 16 year old who just happens to be interested enough in this stuff to take it upon himself to learn about it because the crappy education system isn't doing it soon enough or well enough.

Have you by chance seen the book I as blatantly advertising on page 2? It's really an awesome book for like-minded people interested in Astronomy/Astrophysics.

Nup. I'll be sure to have a look at it if I get a chance to, though :)
I'm more interested in physics as a whole than just the one branch, though. Not sure what area I want to pursue. Maybe just plain ol' theoretical physics. That'd give me a wide range of things to pick and choose from in future.
"One parsec is defined to be the distance from Earth to a star."
Lol, no it isn't.
You're right, it isn't. It's 3.26 light years.
If the universe was infinite, the stars would have emitted light in an infinite amount of time, meaning we should be able to observe them all. However, they might also be infinite far away, meaning their light will never reach us.
Paradox!

The universe would have to be expanding at a rate faster than the speed of light for the light to never reach us. So, the question is, is the universe expanding faster than the speed of light?
