Would be cool to see you do a shorter scale guitar at some point, maybe 3/4 scale, like a Rickenbacker 325, with whatever body you'd like to try.
Every headstock is functional, and in my opinion it is the most boring headstock I've ever had the misfortune to gaze upon.
Not every headstock is functional, some can be too heavy and obstrusive, or bend the strings to much (lol Dean) It's not boring, it has style and it does the job. That's my opinion anyway
Bend the strings too much? Don't you mean increase tension? Does the same as a reversed headstock increasing tension on the Low E
Which do you think makes more ergonomic sense?
Who says jack shit bout ergonomics? I prefer the Dean headstock more than the fender headstock. *watches credibility fly away* Favourite is the blackmachine one though.
Who says jack shit bout ergonomics? I prefer the Dean headstock more than the fender headstock. *watches credibility fly away* Favourite is the blackmachine one though.
...seriously? That Dean headstock is literally the most hideous one I could find
Couldn't think of BC Rich?
I actually think the BC Rich headstock looks pretty rad :v: Hate the body shapes though.
What's wrong with a V headstock though :colbert:
Really a great job man, keep this guitar natural. it looks awesome already :)
I think PRS headstocks are awesome.
Can we going to get a demo when it's finished? I don't think i've seen a Kahler-equipped guitar with single coils before.
I think PRS headstocks are awesome.
That's my favourite headstock design by far. It's just so perfect <3
Everyone apart from you, apparently.
What?? I'm not sure whether to laugh at the ignorance of that remark or explode in rage. Do you even know what red juniper is? Name me a guitar model that is painted and made out of red juniper, in fact, I'd be amazed if you could find me a picture of a guitar made out of it. Also, on the topic of the guitar.. this is the last time I'll be using ebony. This fretwork is incredibly stressful. It's hard to get the frets in, and ebony is prone to chipping so I have to be very fucking careful. It looks really good, but I can see why guitars made with the stuff are so expensive. Thank god I'm using jumbo fretwire, so I (probably) won't have to remove the frets ever again. [editline]11:03PM[/editline]
Thank you. Hypno, you don't want all your guitars to be varnished wood, it's too samey. Keep your red juniper showing, but keep the painting in your mind as well
If I can come across 2" alder, I'll make a guitar out of it and paint it. Seeing as it's such a common tree, I figured it would be easy to find the stuff, but apparently not :/ I refuse to paint anything other than alder and basswood. [editline]12:15AM[/editline] Good god today's work was arduous. Ebony does not like having fretwire put into it
Good god today's work was arduous. -images- Ebony does not like having fretwire put into it
On the brightside it looks utterly gorgeous!
It also require more oil and cleaning than rosewood which is nice because I get my strings and fretboard dirty quickly. [editline]02:38AM[/editline] Finally got the macro setting on my camera to work. Got some high detail closeups of the fretboard and fretwork. And a high exposure one that shows the ebony grain in vivid detail [editline]03:06AM[/editline]
Oh please god no, just get longer pieces of wood and laminate them man. And of course carbon fibre reinforcement rods. And why is it always the same fender headstock? It's so unimaginative
It's got nothing to do with lamination, it's so I can use the other 25.5 fretboard I have. And carbon fiber reinforcement rods are a sham and a gimmick. I've already got a powerful truss rod. It's possible that carbon fiber rods may actually welcome neck warping if anything because it provides more grain-askew surface areas inside the neck. And I like cutaway headstocks :3: I think I've said it before, I'm not trying to be imaginative, I'm trying to make a nice guitar.
Love the fretboard, shame ebony is so hard to work with though.
Got the body finish leveled out. This alkyd stuff sands nicely, but it doesn't quite get the shine of the nitro-based watco lacquer. Either way, I'm fairly satisifed. Before it was buffed, it was incredibly smooth. So I think I'll leave parts of the neck "pre-worn" so it'll be very comfortable. I've also decided that I'm going to re-wire a bit of the pickgaurd, so that on the 2 and 4 positions of the selector switch, the pickups will be in series with each other, instead of in parallel like on most strats. this will give the 2 and 4 positions a more humbucker-like tone, the 2nd position will get an output of 12k, and the 4th position will get an output of 18k (all 3 pickups will become active), as apposed to 6k an all positions with a standard strat. But, the 1 3 and 5 positions will be left as the 6k single coils.
My favourite headstock shape would be either the Gibson one, or the Rickenbacker one;
Gibson headstocks are cool. I still want to make an sg some day <3 Rickenbackers in general are weird to me. But props to them for creating the first electric guitar.
The top on that guitar is stunning :o Shame on anyone telling you to paint it
But you have to admit The headstock fails
But you have to admit The headstock fails
You like the Dean headstock, and therefore should be banned from trollery
¬_¬ Well fuck me for having personal preference and daring to be different. You just hate me cause I'm awesome don't you? :smug:
¬_¬ Well fuck me for having personal preference and daring to be different. You just hate me cause I'm awesome don't you? :smug:
"Daring to be different" is pretty much Dean's catchphrase and excuse when their piece of shit tuning fork headstocks fly off after a light brushing against a piece of foam
It's a work in progress, I'm sure they have the future of all headstocks in the prototype phase with all that money they're getting from Dime's name.
they have that great business mentality "if it breaks, but looks cool to 13 year olds, don't fix it"
...but i'm 18 :derp:
Being different is only really useful when the alternatives are something really special. I don't like the dean headstock :| Some short progress shots. Neck has been sprayed. Will leave it for a few days for adequate hardening time.
I think that Rickenbacker headstocks are among the ugliest ones out there except warlock or dean, I love PRS and the knife edge of Ibby or Jackson guitars of course strictly for metal, wouldn't suit this build
