An HH telecaster would be neat. I'm interested in seeing some concepts though. seems people are content trying to give me ideas and concepts while I'm actually doing a project, but now's a better time :geno:
I have a HH tele. They're very nice, they play well. My Tele has an absolutely incredible sustain, I love it to bits. Paint this one! Also, make a brand name decal thing and stick it on the neck.
Paint it fluro orange.
I thought he wasn't going to paint it. He said it was going to made of walnut
Here's another fairly simple but quirky body design: You could make a similar body shape and put two humbuckers in it.
This is the topwood I'm using. That flames runs down most of the board; enough to have a consistently flamed bookmatched top. The next 3 guitars are not going to be painted. You'd have to have a fuse broken in your head to paint walnut. This piece is probably over 70+ years old. (as in, was milled 70 years ago) Also, not really a fan of the Danelectro's :frown:
Nice flame, it looks kinda quilty.
according to you most woods that are worthwhile to use in guitars must not be painted over.
Most painted guitar bodies are made out of one kind of wood. Do a HH Tele, imo.
I think I'm the only person that doesn't like pretty much all of the fender shapes.
do a Jaguar, God damn
according to you most woods that are worthwhile to use in guitars must not be painted over.
The things I would paint over includes: - Alder - Basswood - Maple (plain, no figuring) - Pine - Cedar - Spruce - Ash (I'd probably do a semi-translucent colored lacquer) I'm not sure, but I don't think many of you appreciate figured or rare woods. First off, you don't just go chop down a "figured walnut tree," wood figuring is rare, only being caused by growth abnormalities and makes the piece of wood very valuable. Painting over devalues it greatly (and makes it look inferior) Walnut, is $13 a board foot. That's twice as much as alder or basswood. It doesn't have superior "tone," it's because it's a hardwood, that takes a longer time to grow, and it looks great. If you're going to paint, buy something cheap and plain. I got a huge volume of wood for free, and I'm going to be using it in a lot of my upcoming projects. Thus why the next 3 will not be painted. two have figured walnut tops, and one is all wavey and just looks awesome.
according to you most woods that are worthwhile to use in guitars must not be painted over.
Walnut should never be painted, it's a waste of gorgeous wood.
Walnut should never be painted, it's a waste of gorgeous wood.
Basically this ^
Also, not really a fan of the Danelectro's :frown:
Ah, that's a shame. I think a Les Paul Junior style guitar would look amazing with that wood.
That wood is stunning :| Maybe a Firebird?
I thought about a firebird, but doesn't really suit what I'm trying to do with this one. It's between the LP special and Tele right now :v: [editline]08:12PM[/editline] FFUUUUUkhsdjhhg Stewart Macdonald just came out with two "Golden Age" P90s. I've been dreaming of this day :unsmith: fuck yeah, makes my project way easier.
Nice :v: And do the LP Special, you've been doing far too many tele's
That's because Tele's are fucking great. :banjo:
- Alder - Ash (I'd probably do a semi-translucent colored lacquer)
Alder is fucking amazing for guitars, and ash is awesome for basses.

1. It's called humbucker, not double coil 2. Mini humbucker has less output and crunchier sound
1. It's called humbucker, not double coil 2. Mini humbucker has less output and crunchier sound
Ok thanks, I did google this in advance but what I read went straight over my head.
Alder is fucking amazing for guitars, and ash is awesome for basses.
It's not "fucking amazing" It's good, just like every other wood. All that stuff you hear about "tone response and range" is a load of crap. The strings, bridge and headnut are whats going to make the biggest difference. Different woods just color the tone. I suppose depending on their grain development, it might make it sound more airy or more solid. Basically any wood will work for a guitar with good results. Unless it's an extreme like balsa-wood or something. I'd buy alder if I could buy it in 2" thick boards, but I have yet to see any.
Willow! http://www.cricketbatguitar.com/
Funny you mention that, I saw a big willow stock at my lumber outlet. I was actually thinking of using that because I can't get an 2" spruce. It was very soft an light, though. Must be a different species. It was like basswood, except looked better. [editline]11:45PM[/editline] The kahler trem on this was going out of tune, so I sprayed a bunch of WD40 on the rollers, and cam axis (the cam axis was caked in dust) and on the string hooks and cam itself, and the thing divebombs like a dream. Very smooth and goes straight back into tune :haw: Though, if I do some heavy string bending, the string drops out of tune, and I need to give the whammy bar a good quick smack down, and it'll go back into tune. Seems to be a problem with all kahlers.

My bat has dents and such from cricket balls, and a few red marks too.
Make an SG
Make an SG
I want to try a curved body now, so a Les Paul seems like a good idea. Or I could do an SG with a curved top. Probably the Les Paul, though.
