Make a drawing of her wearing a biker helmet! Explore the style, expand it.
(sweatbands are headbands dude, there is no getting around it)

What if it was a hairband
Then it'll be a hairband =)
Booty booty booty
I was thinking the same thing
I'm gonna agree with TH89 on this and say ditch the headband.
Never! I need something to make her recognizable
Make a drawing of her wearing a biker helmet! Explore the style, expand it.
Haha XD
And like the others says you should really just remove the headband, it's instantly connected to anime, especially because of crap shows like Naruto that is popular as hell. And how is a sweatband biker-girlish? It isn't. The reason your drawings on this page still has some anime look to it is the classical tentacle hair and headband. Western cartoons tends to have more plain shapes on the hair, not much details for the hair straws.
Western cartoons? Wtf ? What does it have to do with anything here? So here's my last try. Asked a mate to tell me what style it was he said it looked death-note-ish >_< I also know that she looks a bit older Ok, now I need to know which one is the best to choose, don't care if anime or not, don't care if realistic or not, don't fucking care if western or not, just tell me which one looks best to you A. B. C. D. E. F.
The hair from B on F.
F's style works really well.. it's the onlly true unique style i see that looks great :D
I think having the hair as bangs makes it look like a manga influenced western comic style. when i draw western style I make sure the hair looks realistic and not clumped together. The band in F looks the best, I think having it there loses the manga feel. The face in E looks good, the jaw has a more western definition.
RISE UP FROM THE DEADDDDD!!!! How much % have I moved away from manga :ohdear:
Alot.
i'm definitely liking the new pics, xerios. It looks like you just needed to fiddle with the style to make it your own. Good work
TH89 whenever I see your post I imagine your avatar speaking it. Anyway I like it, and think that it carries an overall tone that is unlike most anime.
I don't think the shading works for the style you are going for. so much better than manga style
so much better than manga style
I completely agree.
Cool, thanks guys :buddy: will keep on practicing then ( and post pics here )
I don't think the shading works for the style you are going for.
Can you be more precise?
I really like it, I do. At TH89; Sure, it could look like anime, but if he wants it like that fine. I agree with the headband thing, but not the high-collar. Oh, making her hair longer would eliminate the need for a headband. *Nude version* Do it now.
Good to see you're moving away from the anime stuff. I suggest you check out the books by Andrew Loomis if you still haven't, they're free to dl since copyright have expired on them.
Waited several minutes to see one of the google pics, and I have to admit it ,his work looks cool, might help me develop my anatomy skills even further Gonna download his work once my bandwidth is reseted I was currently focusing more on the faces, which is the only thing I'm not good at and it is also the main part which differentiates manga from comic art. Since from what I've seen Andrew Loomis is a realistic artist but I unfortunately don't like realistic art cause I mostly find them boring and lifeless while comic art kind of preserves the realistic feel and gives you the ability to slightly exaggerate stuff. Anyway thanks :buddy:

BUT, one MUST know how to draw a face realisticly to be able to draw a comic art-ish face convinsingly.Being able to draw realistic is the key to unlocking ho to draw good-looking manga, cartoon or any other way, compared to those deviantart manga-freaks that says the opposite. Ever Heard of Frank Frazetta? He started by studying Andrew Loomis and George Bridgeman, and look how it turned out. I also recommend you check Bridgeman out.
Yes definitely, Lord M is very knowledgeable about studying, just check out his sketchbook on CA. All of Loomis' books are here: http://alexhays.com/loomis/ You can find Bridgman's "Constructive Anatomy" online here... if you search around you can find all of his pdfs online as well if you prefer to download it. http://www.scribd.com/doc/4461737/Constructive-Anatomy-by-George-Bridgman Frazetta did study from Bridgman and Loomis, and his work has had an influence on practically the entire concept art and comics industry... you'd be hard-pressed to not find an artist who does fantasy, science fiction or comic art who has not been awed and influenced by Frazetta. Since Frazetta studied his basics so well and spent years honing his abilities by drawing from life and understanding the human form, he never used reference in his paintings. Considering they are oil paintings and not digital... well that is ridiculously impressive, considering these are amazing images. Get your fundamentals down, it's worth it. There's not a single great artist out there who has neglected his/her fundamentals... the granddaddies of Western comics like Alex Toth, Will Eisner and Jack Kirby all had an impeccable sense of design, composition and an amazing knowledge of the figure. If you want to be good, you need to put in the hours. Simple as that.
