Well since the main timeline's future is always straight the game "knew" it.
So clearly this is the game's way of allowing the sessions to interact, possibly at least.

Isn't the nature of Billious Slick and the significance of amphibian still intentionally ambiguous? What's solid about the temples is that they're vague models of the sessions they're tied to and contain the code for making the game.
Unless you mean as a gameplay mechanic, and then I'm pretty sure it's "provide something Dersites can get riled up about" and act as a vehicle for weird time shit.
