Well, this enables much more character development and actually meaningful story. In Problem Sleuth, pretty much nothing needed to be explained into detail, because nobody cares where Bee Doctor came from, he's just awesome. I am not saying that Problem Sleuth was a bad comic, it's still one of my most favorite ones, but, Homestuck is a whole new level.
