Mate, I feel exactly the same. I'm going into sixth form, a sort of college, next year, and I don't even know what subjects to take. Travelling the world is always something I've wanted to do as well.
I feel like its horrible that average people work their whole lives to live some semblance of a life, when instead 80% of them dont even explore the whole planet we live on.
Concider what I'm doing. Get a decent job and save up for a couple of years. Buy your dream vehicle, and just go. Bring all your money with you, sell everything you won't bring. If you run out of money, get a small job somewhere. Oh and remember to study atleast the basics of a few larger languages, such as French, Spanish or German. Personally planing on going sometime in 2015 or 2016
I had no ambitions myself, failed first year of college because i didnt really care. ended up in an interesting job, making awesome money, not wanting anything in specific means you can do anything
I'm kind of in the same position OP. I finished high school in 2010 and had started college aiming for cinematography, but around 4 months ago my family and I moved to Crete, Greece. So for two years I kind of get to do that soul search and really think about what direction I want to steer my life in.
Join the Peace Corps and go to a developing country and see how radically different life is somewhere else. You get to travel and live somewhere else for ~2 years and you get all sorts of benefits from it, afterwards too.
You should try those online money-making thingys for fun.
You should try those online money-making thingys for fun.
I used to do a black hat scheme of this myself. Ended up "aquiring" around 1000$ of items in the course of a few months, not enough to sustain on, but nonetheless. For example, i got 6 sidewinder mouses and keyboards for free etc. The peace corps sounds interesting actually!
I'm thinking about it for myself, too. I've always really wanted to travel the world and see how different life can be. As long as you can handle living in less-than-par living conditions for a few years and actually care enough to devote your time and energy. I think it'd be a great life experience.
don't jack off for 7 days, you will have a goal then
Some guy shared with me earlier on Durgs Discussion that he keeps a journal that he writes every week or so reflecting on his feelings, events and achievements. Maybe try doing that and see what you dig out of your mind...
I was in pretty much the same situation you're in, I went to college for a little bit and studied business, which I wound up really not enjoying, so I joined the military. I'm pretty happy with the decision so far too. If you're not sure what you want to do yet, something like the military or the Peace Corps might not be a bad idea. Or take a few classes at your community college and see what interests you. The most important thing is that you find something that you enjoy doing in life.
You'll most likely be able to find out when you're IN college, says a lot of my friends.
This is the truth. My years spent going to college have been the most important in my life. It's changed me a lot, for the better.
I feel ya OP, even as a kid I never had grand plans. I just live on a day to day bases.
Join the military, do reserves first and see if you like it, and go to college while you decide to go active or not. Do what you think will be best for yourself.
Just think very generally about things that you enjoy doing, or things that you've always wanted to do. And then do a little research about some jobs that involve those things, and if they sound appealing to you, then take some classes for it and see how you like it.
If this is the wrong section, mods please move it. I figured it would fit in general discussion. I'll be graduating high school soon, and most likely going to a college. The problem is, after college, i have literally NO idea what i want to do with my life. People always ask me "What is it that you could see yourself doing after college?" And i think, I want to actually LIVE. I want to travel the world, not work a bullshit job, that i know i won't like. I want to explore places, have fun, actually see what life means. I have no idea what job career i would like to spend my life in, and i can't see myself doing anything for that long in a time period. I've considered joining the military to follow in the footsteps of my dad, and it appeals to me. Sometimes at least. At other times I think, what if i don't agree with a current military venture, i would be forced to fight for something i have no belief in. To anyone who has had this feeling, what did you do?
The thing about not knowing what you want to do. Just think about what you like doing and see if there is someway you can turn that into a job.
I'm in a similar situation, I have no hopes or dreams for the future. This is because I know nothing I ever do, goes to plan.

Im in subschool at the moment, got out of boot camp about a month ago. Get about 1700$ per month and housing and everything is already taken care of. Money in your pocket all the time, and you're gonna be helping out the country.
As a wise man once said "The best people are the ones that don't know what to do with their life". You can only find out if that's true if you look back.
I'm in a similar situation, I have no hopes or dreams for the future. This is because I know nothing I ever do, goes to plan.
Sounds like a self-fulfilling prophecy.
People seem to feel they need to go to college to make a success out of their life / have aspirations. You don't. Out of high school I waited around 2 years before going back to school. Honestly, it seems like bullshit, but take some time off to "discover yourself." It really DOES help.

If you pressure yourself, you may end up regretting your decision.
I've been feeling the same, I'm a junior in high school and I keep getting asked those annoying "Where do you see yourself..." questions. I have this cloud of depression looming over me while I think about how I don't want to do the same thing every day for the rest of my life. I want to feel like I'm actually living the one life I've been given, and be able to make an impact upon someone or this world. The truth is, I honestly don't know what I want to do. My only desire is to spend what time I have with my boyfriend, we've been together for nearly three long years now and I couldn't imagine my life without him. I'm kinda trying to see where we could both go for college and right now we're thinking about some art colleges in Chicago. I'm really into art, I'm not the best at it, but I like it. The most important thing is being happy, if I end up being a stay at home mom or anything else, I don't care as long as I'm happy. Live life on impulse for a while, see how far you get, that's what I've been doing.
I hear taking gap years from school will make it harder to get back into the habit of school and all of it's work. And what would you do in that gap year?
im a freshman in college right now and I have no clue STILL what I want to do, and I've had those feelings since high school and it scares me more each day. Sometimes I want to travel the world, sometimes I want to get into acting, sometimes I want to be just like Tobuscus from Youtube. But I just don't have a CLUE what I am ABLE to do yet. And I think that's the hardest part.
I have known since the age of 10 that I will one day be in the game industry. I have never thought about how hard it would be to not know. Sorry.

Try to find something that motivates you. I was the same way, but then I got into DCI, I tried out for Carolina Crown, made it, it was awesome, then I knew what I wanted to do, and right now I'm majoring in music and college has been the best time of my life, and after I get finished at WCU I'm going to get my masters degree in Tuba performance.
