You only get cut if you shave incorrectly. So maybe it's you and not the razor.
I would assume that too, or even my shaving "technique", but I've found that the only time I don't get any cuts are when I shave in the shower, and I can't take a shower every time I want to shave (especially when I'm at college and need all the precious sleep I can get). I also have the weird issue where the left side of my face grows facial perfectly fine and towards the same direction, but my right side grows hairs really awkwardly near my chin. I ended up using tweezers to get rid of ones that literally grew the opposite direction of the rest, and they come out extremely easily as though they're already out. Anyone know what the problem might be?
I shaved today with a Philips AT893/20. That's as fancy as my routine gets.

Some cuts are going to occur regardless of what you do, particularly if you have a naturally bumpy face or poor skin, just clean them up after with some alum and you should be good. Hair can grow in various directions and even in circles.
I'm surprise the OP is limited to only facial hair.
If you're talking about hair on your head then my knowledge is rather limited, about as far as I go is pushing a hair trimmer over it once a month.
Hair can grow in various directions and even in circles.
This is why I always do at least two passes when I shave. It's not overkill at all and I love the results.
i once did a 5 pass shave with a safety razor no irritation, no cuts. try THAT with gillette mach 3! :suicide: best shave ever :-) I'm still a newbie and got my razor blade sampler pack to get through.
oh i usually go up and down with it to make sure it gets as even as can be though. mine also has a trimmer of sorts that allows it to get down to just the barebones so the 3 razors up top just clean up what's left. in fact, this is what i have http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Norelco-Speed-XL-8240-Shaving/dp/B001AMRQ2W
I'm actually kinda clueless about electric shaving in general. For some people it works, I tried it once and it had no effect and also a mate of mine uses it all the time but he managed to cut himself once with it.. Tbh my advice is dabble in all an see what works best.
only time i have any chances of cutting myself with it is when i use the back trimmer thing on it... down below.
Love my DE safety razor, real cheap, gives close shave. I change between it and disposable (for travels) and can only say DE works best for me.
i just use disposable razors and shaving gel why spend hundreds on useless stuff
a good safety razor even including the blades will almost invariably be cheaper in the long run [editline]4th August 2015[/editline] unless you don't mind a bleeding face and keep using cartridge razors after they've gone blunt I guess.
switched from cartridge razors to an electric razor was irritating to my skin at first, but i love it now. my hair is sparse and uneven in the first place so it works out nicely, makes tricky areas (chin/under lip/etc) incredibly easy to clean up. definitely not a GOOD shave, but it does the part for my shitty sparse facial hair. once I get an actual beard (took my dad until he was 35 so we'll see lmao) i'll probably look at safety razors
1 problem I found with safety razors is definitely getting used to the technique.. I had tendency to apply pressure, and that was so not the way to go.. got bad razor burn. Once I got used to the technique, then it started getting really good to shave with. Then I tried shaving with my Mach 3 and it was absolutely horrible, really scratchy... blegh
to play the cartridge side of things my dorco pace 6 cartridges last about 2 months (the last time i ordered a pack of 12 was june of last year, i've still got more than half left) and i can get 12 refills for 25 dollars
If you're talking about hair on your head then my knowledge is rather limited, about as far as I go is pushing a hair trimmer over it once a month.
can't speak for that other guy but i came into this thread hoping someone was gonna tell me how to shave my hairy asshole
Can recommend Dollar Shave Club highly over any store brand disposable razors. They stay sharp far longer and cost less. You have to get the 9$ one though for this to apply. You can buy them in bulk here: http://www.dorcousa.com/pace-6-plus-sxa5000/ (handle) http://www.dorcousa.com/pace-6-plus-cartridges-sxa5040/ (cartridges) Any store brand razor goes dull in 20 good strokes for me. These allow me to shave my entire body twice and fast. Nothing feels as good in shaving as a sharp blade. My question to you guys: Should I consider a safety razor for body shaving? What about sensitive areas/creases? Which kind should I get (aggressiveness?) if I want my face to look like it doesn't even grow hair at all?
if I want my face to look like it doesn't even grow hair at all?
this is my kind of shave, I like v close but the problem is very risky.. I haven't yet used the sharpest japanese razor blades yet which apparently glide and destroy all hairs, but yeah you've gotta use the right stuff to get close. that's when shaving against the grain risks ingrown hairs/major razor burn.
can't speak for that other guy but i came into this thread hoping someone was gonna tell me how to shave my hairy asshole
Very carefully.
can't speak for that other guy but i came into this thread hoping someone was gonna tell me how to shave my hairy asshole
I shave it while showering, no need for shaving cream and it just seems a lot easier than dry with shaving cream. I am using one of those overprices Gilette disposable things, but hey, my parents pay for it :v:
can't speak for that other guy but i came into this thread hoping someone was gonna tell me how to shave my hairy asshole
don't actually touch the asshole just run it up your thighs, rinse and repeat. yes i'm speaking from experience, this is where the trimmer on my electric shaver comes in handy. a lot.

i need to shave soon, my hair starts to get all scraggly looking and harder to clean up. plus some little kid told me i look better without a beard and if there's anyone i take grooming advice from it's 8 year olds
Yeah, I've not really got a shave yet I'd call super smooth, still trying out different blades, going to try a japanese feather blade tomorrow and see what happens. :facemelt:
I love my feather blades. Started like 6 months to a year ago, tried a sample pack and picked the feathers, I love that I can pretty much just buy a pack of a 100 and some soap and never have to buy anything else for like a year. (soap lasts a bit less, I've gone through one so far. can just buy a couple tubs though, still cheap af) I might give a straight razor a try sometime, I don't quite have the money right now to throw at stuff like that at the moment though. And what I do have is working just fine.
Just finished shaving with a feather razor blade and I can definitely say they are very sharp, the first two passes went very well but it didn't get as close as I'd like on the chin and neck area, once I started going against the grain it became pretty uncomfortable, by the end I must have nicked myself at least 10 times, it's definitely the closest shave I've had but I don't think I could do this very often, maybe I'll have more luck with a more gentle blade like a derby. Whatever it is it takes me like 50 passes with the blade to get a clean chin, it sounds like I'm shaving sandpaper even with a feather. told you! it's less about the blade more about technique! that being said, I think Derby are quite nice for against the grain shaving, I change the blade mid-shave for a derby sometimes, they're actually good.

If I just wanna get the minimum that's brand new and ready (aka I won't have to go some other dude to hone it or whatever) I'll probably get a simple dovo. And for me I haven't cut myself with feather blades, out of the sampler the only one I cut myself with were astras, which are usually considered to be great on the internet. Whatever though, that's why it's good advice to get a sampler pack when you start.
Because of my genetics, I need to shave only every two or three days. Disposable razors used to do the trick, but now I do not find them satisfactory anymore. Recently I got a Gilette Fusion with some cartridges for cheap, as in, 60% sale. They are of genuine quality, but reading the reviews I find more and more people speaking out against cartridge razors. Why is that? Also, how long would a single cartridge last me if I shave three times a week at most? I do two passes, one with the grain and one against the grain, sometimes with additional strokes to get out the whiskers.

really getting into this now... I think so far the best blade I've used is: So smooth even if I'm not putting the effort in.. one thing I find is if the lather is better then you get a way better shave. but still have about 7 blades to try.
