No, no, no and no. 70's was the pre-cursor to metal (Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, etc.) with a few punk bands thrown in (The Misfits, The Ramones, The Dead Boys) and hippie/jam rock/disco. The 80's was punk/hardcore and new wave. Black Flag, Minor Threat, D.O.A., Social Distortion, etc. etc., then Duran Duran, Depeche Mode and other GOOD new wave artists. The LATE 80's was hair metal and New Wave of British Heavy Metal, such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead. The 90's was grunge and nu-metal. You know bands from then... The 00's will be remembered as either the re-surgence of Hardcore or Hip Hop. Hopefully the best of those two genres.
yea except motorhead were formed in the mid 70's [editline]01:04AM[/editline]
Back together again, they have a new song on their myspace. Most of the members are different though but they still have the same singer/guitarist. [editline]08:49PM[/editline] The singer sounds similar but the music is quite different.
yea I'd say they had more in common with Sabbath than zeppelin, although I like to think of them as an amalgamation of a ton of great 70's bands
Yeah but they started the whole grunge thing in the 80s.
Fixed. Anyway they didn't. They just made it popular with Nevermind. [editline]12:41PM[/editline]
The 2000's have had some great bands, but none that stand out as much as Elvis did in the 50's, the Beatles did in the 60's, etc. etc.
That's because the people in their 20s in the 50s and 60s have had time to let the shit(the same shit that's here today - 'teenybopper' was coined in the 50s) filter out of their system and find something good with a lot of songs. Anyway, Black Eyed Peas are quite good. Boom Boom Pow is pretty mental. First I'm like '2008 you're soo 200late what the fuck' then I watch the video and I see Duke Nukem's hand in the video and I'm like 'wait so is this some sort of parody of video games or the computer industry or something' now I just think they took some cyberpunk LSD. Oops I don't like samey screaming metal bands THAT'S ME OSTRACISED.
Black Eyed Pea's 'Where Is The Love' could arguably be the song of the 00s, dunno about artist of the 00s though.
Lily Allen is far better than 90% of British 'indie' bands
:cawg:
At least she is somewhat original, it's almost impossible to tell indie bands apart
At least she is somewhat original, it's almost impossible to tell indie bands apart
It's easy to tell if the band is indie. If they wear clothes that make you want to punch them, and they sing songs about toasters, then there's a good chance that they're indie.
The 00's will be known for the rapid resurgence of black music, namely rap and hip-hop, which has been almost entirely consuming in the music industry. Any thoughts that metal or any obscure genre of it will be recognized as an important movement in this decade is wishful thinking by those biased for a personally favourited genre. These genres are coupled with the idea of the black stereotype that has become popularized in the same decade, and it is not a coincidence that the success of the music with black roots has entered mainstream success along with this stereotype permeating pop culture. At any given time, the top hundred purchased songs on easily tallied online music stores such as iTunes contains no less than 70% of bands that would consider themselves some form of rap and/or hip-hop. Several other things in the music industry will be attributed to this decade, namely the power of the Internet in terms of the ability to easily steal massive amounts of music in a short period of time. This is paralleled by the astounding downfall of music stores, which have been crippled by Bittorrent and other pirating programs. The music industry will also be known for the loss of power by the record companies, which for the majority of the western world's timeline of pop music controlled nearly every aspect of the musician's success. 'Indie' bands are in reality an offspring of this loss of power by the record companies, as bands have achieved startling amounts of success without help by the larger conglomerate companies. This success is attributed to the popularity of the Internet, and is facilitated by Myspace and other social networking sites. Hoped you guys like my shpiel on today's pop music. Hope it dies in a fucking fire within the next couple years, I'm excited for the comeback wave of good music.
I'd like Blink-182 or Muse.
Why does your avatar not at all surprise me
Was that a compliment or an insult?
Was that a compliment or an insult?
Neither really, though it's common for prog listeners to be elitist about music.
Neither really, though it's common for prog listeners to be elitist about music.
How was what he wrote elitist?
Neither really, though it's common for prog listeners to be elitist about music.
I don't listen to much prog music, although I do personally believe that DSotM is the greatest album on the face of the earth. I would attribute that more to my psyconautism than anything else, however. I would consider my musical tastes to be something along the lines of funk, blues, and psychedelic based rock from the 60s and 70s.

I doubt we can predict it anyway. It will probably slowly emerge by itself. I think Franz Ferdinand might be up there.
The Master of The Flagpolian was alright, but that was the end of 1999. Correct me if im wrong
Fall Out Boy.
Fall Out Boy.
If that is what this generation will be remembered for I demand that someone starts a horrible war. Anything but fallout boy.
Fall Out Boy.
don't think so hoss just because it's liked by angsty teenagers for 5 years doesn't mean the whole world will remember it
If were going with NAOHM then i would say The Black Dahlia Murder for sure.
i will refuse to remember modern music
Indie is the thing of the 00's, like the grunge of the '90s, the new wave of the '80s, and the rock music of the '70s
Indie is the thing of the 00's, like the grunge of the '90s, the new wave of the '80s, and the rock music of the '70s
nno, grunge was really only big for about 2 or 3 years of the '90s. new wave hardly dominated more than a year of the '80s, nothing really ever did. it was always a mix between hair bands, progressive bands, new wave bands, and metal bands. and in the modern times, 00's that is, indie isn't actually all too popular, because by the time enough people find a band that was ever considered indie, it's no longer indie. [editline]11:38PM[/editline]
Fall Out Boy.
now, now, don't be silly.
-snip-
The only good rock like band, is probably Chickenfoot. Also Paul Gilbert (even though he was around for awhile) has broken out, imo. But Chickenfoot is still not really that good. I only listen to them because...I hate "new age rock n' roll." Chickenfoot is old school, Sammy, Chad, Joe, Michael are all keeping it real. Hehehehe.
Indie is not a genre.
Same thing as emo by the modern definition. All music has emotion one way or another.
Same thing as emo by the modern definition. All music has emotion one way or another.
Yeah but emo is actually a genre. Stuff just gets mislabeled as it all the time.
Popular Emo Bands: Taking Back Sunday My Chemical Romance The Used And there are more genres like emocore and screamo Just Listen to "helena" by MCR, there it is a "true" emo song. Emo is punk rock/punk with extreme emotional lyrics like "now i'm dying because of you" and that kind of shits Now, back into the topic i think maybe some nu metal in the early 00's, punk rock in the middle 00's and emo in the late 00's. Bands like My Chemical romance, maybe KoRn, etc....
