The 00's is a sad time indeed, for all the loosers like slipknot (Why do they go on stage with masks?!) or linkin park(who just scream) or bullet for my valentine, all the "MainStream ""Metal"". These band are not metal, they are scremo(spelt it like that since they are emo. The real rock/metal genres are the 70's/80's Such as Iron Maiden(70's) Metallica(80's though theyre still around now) Slayer(80's) and others like Black Sabbath 70's Deep Purple (70's though not sure just from my head) Led Zeppelin (60's JUST) Well, I'd say I'v just said all I know about how older Heavy Metal is better than the new "metal" though probably the best modern bands from 00's are Disturbed, Rise against, Dragonforce(Dragonforce ARE good just that they use the whammy, harmoniser, other one i don't know, though they use it too much :D) Thanks for reading if you did >:D I'm in places doing things i shouldnt
I'm not sure whether I should laugh or cry at this. Rise Against heavy metal? You serious? And good job at calling Dragonforce good. The only thing they're good at is being so different and bad while playing live and good at being a cavalcade of monotony. No, we'll be remembered for shitty boybands like the Jonas Fuckers, other stupid shit like Hannah Montana and the likes and monotonous and shitty gangsta rap (*points at Soulja Boy*) with the only good stuff being all underground music, like heavy metal, Indie and some other stuff I don't know the name of. And just like hypno-toad, I too have never heard of Soundgarden, most likely because they stopped in '97.
Black Hole Sun is considered one of the best rock songs of all time, where the fuck have you been?
The music video to Black Hole Sun messed up my childhood forever. I mean that girl with the doll about halfway or so... D:

For those that are into experimental music, Soisong's xAj3z For indie fans: The Decemberists For rock fans: For metal fans: ? For IDM fans: Aphex Twin that's as much as I've come up with
Kaiser Chiefs Have I said them?
Young Weezy
Black Hole Sun is considered one of the best rock songs of all time, where the fuck have you been?
No it isn't you big fat liar. Just because you consider it to be one of the greatest rock songs of all time, doesn't mean everybody; or at the very best, a small portion of rock fans, consider it to be one of the best rock songs. Lets not forget that a lot of people on facepunch have a fairly similar taste in music, as compared to the rest of the population of the world. I'm not saying they are bad (they are good), but it sounds like they are overrated here.
Coldplay.
For indie fans: The Decemberists
Indie isn't a genre but okay.
I'm not saying they are bad (they are good), but it sounds like they are overrated here.
Do you know anything about popular music at all?
No it isn't you big fat liar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Hole_Sun
At the 1995 Grammy Awards, "Black Hole Sun" received the award for Best Hard Rock Performance and received a nomination for Best Rock Song.[9]

It appeared on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 Airplay chart, reaching the top 30. The following week it debuted on the Top 40 Mainstream, where it peaked at number nine in its eighth week and remained on the chart until its twentieth week. The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and number two on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. The song spent a total of seven weeks at number one on the Mainstream Rock chart

The song was included on VH1's countdown of the "100 Greatest Songs of the '90s" at number 25
Over rated my ass Just because you like to make generalizations and don't care about facts doesn't mean that it's not one of the best god damned rock songs of all time
Are you fucking kidding me? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Hole_Sun
Oh shit, Wikipedia says so, I'm totally wrong. Funny thing is, that Wikipedia mentions that it was in the top 30's and 40's, while the offspring's hits from smash (in the same year) were getting into the top 10. So don't get all pissy that I didn't mention them in my original post. Here's some main google hits for ya, since you guys are using the popular music card. http://digitaldreamdoor.nutsie.com/pages/best_songsddd.html http://www.mymusiclists.com/songs/best-rock-songs-of-all-time.asp http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/500songs Feel free to look for more. Rolling stone by itself represents a vast majority of popular taste, and I don't think black hole sun is anywhere on there. That brings up my point that your interpretations of the best rock songs is different to that of most others.
You must be a troll. Everyone knows Soundgarden expect maybe 7 year-olds.
i didnt know them until som1 opened a thread here and i recognized all the band members cuz they work solo now
You must be a troll. Everyone knows Soundgarden expect maybe 7 year-olds.
They might know them, but they weren't that big of an impact during the 90's.
They might know them, but they weren't that big of an impact during the 90's.
Alternative metal would not exist without Soundgarden. Also, they were one of the most famous grunge bands. The fact that you somehow haven't heard of them doesn't make them not insanely popular.
Well it's quite simpel: the 50's : you had Elvis the 60's : you had The Beatles the 70's : you had Led Zeppelin the 80's : you had punk the 90's : you had old school hip hop So what will be remebert for the 00's (stupid name).
fixed
Alternative metal would not exist without Soundgarden
Oh no! No, really, I'm totally not being sarcastic [/sarcasm]
What do you listen to?
Never heard soundgarden. Or maybe I have just not known the name of them. And maybe they weren't as big in sweden as in the rest of the world.
Sweden like MOVITS! Sweden? [editline]09:10AM[/editline]
fixed
Um... No. you're so wrong it hurts. Rap started in the 80's so I'd probably put my money on that if any decade was going to be remembered by rap (which it isn't). I actually don't think any good punk bands were still around cept The Clash in the 80's which was entirely dominated by hair bands and later early thrash. And the other guy was partially right because the 90's in the US will definitely be known for grunge and in the UK indie turned britpop bands like oasis.
A lot of bands today are just big from the 90's. Otherwise I'd say Green Day and Weezer, because they have large followings still.
Alternative metal would not exist without Soundgarden. Also, they were one of the most famous grunge bands. The fact that you somehow haven't heard of them doesn't make them not insanely popular.
okay to say that they were insanely popular is retarded but they were fairly well known. Most people should know of them. I like them alright but "insanely popular" is a huge overstatement
If Soundgarden were a 90s band then what the fuck would they be doing remembered as the band of this generation. Pillocks.
For those that are into experimental music, Soisong's xAj3z For indie fans: The Decemberists For rock fans: For metal fans: ? For IDM fans: Aphex Twin that's as much as I've come up with
Except Aphex Twin's stuff was mostly released in the 90's. =\
Where is David Bowie in that list...
Never heard soundgarden. Or maybe I have just not known the name of them. And maybe they weren't as big in sweden as in the rest of the world.
See, this is fine, because you live in Sweden.
See, this is fine, because you live in Sweden.
You're going to hate me when I say I don't know a single person that specifically listens to Soundgarden. Oh, they did Black Hole Sun.

I only know Spoonman because of ATV Offroad Fury... Song got annoying after awhile. Great, now I'm listening to "Click" by Ultraspank (that games theme song).
Oh, Black Hole Sun and Spoonman are all I'm familiar with. I only know Spoonman because of ATV Offroad Fury... Listen to Pretty Noose or Burden in my Hand, they're my favourites.
