Depends what you were a fan of I guess. Another big genre during the 90s was Grunge. Even if Kurt died in the middle of the 90s, his influence lasted.
Yeah that's true
I guess I was more thinking if there was a decade where rap peaked I would say it was the 90s--I can't think of any rappers from the 00s more influential and high-profile than Tupac and Biggie Smalls
I'm having a hard time working out who the key players of the past decade have been. to me it seems too early to really tell, but I also don't listen to a lot of pop music so I don't know
More and more electro is being played on the radio.
I hope the rap phase dies out and electro and house take over somehow.
Pretty sure those genres have gotten as big as they're going to get in past decades

I think the re-surgance of Wu-Tang, GZA, Biggie, Andre Nickatina, Atmosphere and Aesop Rock have helped alot. For me, the 90's was definitely the golden age of rap. Wu-Tang dropped all their albums...GZA made Liquid Swords, still easily the best rap album of all time and Andre dropped most of his cuts too. Not a big fan of Biggie though, I just know he was popular in the 90s.
Biggie and Tupac were the only rappers I ever liked, but when they died, rap died to me...

Meh, to me, Biggie and Tupac were jokes. They tried way too hard to prove how gangster they were. Their beats and flows were really simple, and I like complex lyrics...I've always been a Kool Kieth/GZA/Wu Tang fan. Atmosphere has been playing alot on my computer lately, Tears for The Sheep is a heavy song.
Real emo is 80s :S
When emo was just emotional and not overemotional?
Jonas Brothers..Miley Cyrus...Hannah Montanah...GAH...
My choice, everything in my playlist from Breaking Benjamin to 30 Seconds to Mars :P
It's all going to be different in everyone's eyes.
The stupid people will remember all the shitty Disney bands.
We will remember how much music suffered during this decade.
Probably Muse, Kanye West, Eminem
Muse.
Kanye West and Eminem can go fuck themselves.

Compared to how much good music was made in the previous decades, this decade has the smallest amount of bearable music.
Again, you must just not be looking hard enough.

Just some stuff I've been digging lately. This by no means represents all of modern music.
Not exactly my cup of tea, but thanks anyways.
I would like to say Death From Above 1979, not only because they are my favorite band but because they defined their genre of music. Although they were quiet on the charts, their music was loud and their style was unique. Following their split in '06 it seems they had grown more popular.

Music have never been better.
Thanks to the internet we can get whatever music we want and not just the stuff that's on the radio.
You guys are right, I guess i'm being really lazy and dumb right now.
soulja boi
I would love to see Dream theater being a media top band !
they are still the number one in my top
Micheal Jackson
Actually, emo back then displayed actual emotion and wasn't cashing in on a trend so I'd say that it was more emotional than current "emo".
So they too broke down over nothing?
Yeah sure whatever.
The Foo Fighters have been getting pretty popular, but they're a '90s band...
Probably Muse, Kanye West, Eminem
I hope they listen to them in that order.
i think slipknot will be but not now maybe later
blink-182.
Blink peaked in the 90s.
I think more of their mainstream success was in the 00's.
