So uhhh. Idaho did this last week

Idaho is going through a confusing time in its life right now.
Everyone on the East Coast pronounces Oregon wrong as Oregahn. As a Northwesterner, this drives me insane.

people in wisconsin pronounce washington as "worshington" which pisses me off.
Yeah, it's not really just East Coasters, it's really everyone outside Oregon that has never met anyone from it, a lot of them pronounce it like it's a pentagon. And they pronounce Washington as Warshington because haven't you ever heard them say things like "warsh the dishes"? It's annoying in general that they insert an 'r' into that word.
Eastern Washington is not as fun as Western Washington. Believe me, I know.
If we had a choice, R-74 (legalizing gay marriage) would have been voted 74% against and 26% for.
Thanks King Country, you're a bro!
The sun almost shined today in Montana

Everyone in the East must have a speech disability or something. It's likely because I grew up in BC, but I've never heard anyone have trouble pronouncing Washington or Oregon.
[editline]2nd March 2013[/editline]
Oh oops, missed the part where you purposely excluded BC. I'll just go back to the Canadian thread and talk about how much we hate the French (Which is not at all)
also, sports broadcasters like to pronounce the "or" in Oregon as "are." It ends up sounding close enough to Oregon that I'm sure lots of people miss it, and it's not as bad as Ore-gone, but it's still definitely a mispronunciation
also, sports broadcasters like to pronounce the "or" in Oregon as "are." It ends up sounding close enough to Oregon that I'm sure lots of people miss it, and it's not as bad as Ore-gone, but it's still definitely a mispronunciation
sounds like they're mixing Oregon and Argon together.

wait, you guys pronounce oregon as "ore-gone"? i always pronounced it as "ore-again", like "i'm going to play minecraft, i hope i find some ore again!"
now i feel a bit silly.
what, no? i said pronouncing Oregon as "Ar-egon" isn't as bad as pronouncing it "Or-uh-gawn", but it's still a mispronunciation
we pronounce it basically how you said it, it sounds like "oragun." jesus this must be why people have so much trouble

I love Madronas, they're so weird and unique.

I was east of the sound and I found one that one of branches had a ~90 degree bend and continued to grow sideways.
They also make good firewood I hear. it lasts pretty long.
wait, you guys pronounce oregon as "ore-gone"? i always pronounced it as "ore-again", like "i'm going to play minecraft, i hope i find some ore again!"

I'm from Washington. Probably the best state imo. Especially when you take into consideration the amount of diversity (Geographic, cultural, climate, etc). Natives don't use umbrellas. Ever.
As far as the pronunciation of our stepchild to the south goes, I've always said it like "Organ"(like the instrument, or a kidney).

Where else can you bow hunt Madrona forests!?

oregon is actually more diverse than washington geographically and climate-wise. cultural diversity is a bit of a toss-up because oregon has almost zero black people, but it also has a lot of asians/hispanics. politically, oregon is also way more diverse, as it has both the most radically conservative conservatives in the U.S. as well as the most radically liberal liberals in the U.S., which is just crazy to me. that's what happens when southern oregon and portland share a state, though.

if i don't feel ~1,000 drops of rain hitting me per second, i don't feel the need to don a jacket (and if i don't feel much more than that, my jacket will be cloth)

I know the feeling. Though after I got pneumonia my tolerance to cold has dropped. I used to eat outside through the winter at school. It was so nice and quiet until the temperature rose and everyone started running around the courtyard. I also haven't spent enough time outside this winter.
I really should go for more walks, there are some awesome trails around here.

Nice. My friend bought some Cascadia patches. They were 1 for 3$ or 4 for 10$. As a result he bought 4 and gave me and some of our other friends one. I just need a jacket that is worth sewing it on.

I live in Washington and I have seen more grey skies in my life than I have seen blue.
I live in that state with the flat brown grass.

My grandparents live In Clarkston, which is a town on the Washington/Idaho border. Just on the other side of the Snake River is Lewiston. So from a early age, I've known that crossing the mountains wouldn't have much reward, but returning was amazing. After a week or 2 of temperatures over 60 degrees and seeing nothing but the brown valley that the town is in, I was about ready to see some forests. After 4-6 hours of driving and waiting as the range got taller, we would finally start climbing. Its always so beautiful to see the dense forest through fog as you climb the mountain. And for me, feeling the rain for the first time in a couple weeks is always a plus.
I don't think I could live in a different part of the country.
that's why it must have been pretttty awesome to be Lewis and Clark discovering this shit for the first time, and without any trace of human impact on the land. no wonder everybody took off for the west coast ;))
