This hurts.
I walked into this thread going "Oh boy, here we go" in my mind, but instead I was welcomed with this discussion, thank you Facepunch.
I have a friend who is a "hardcore" brony
It goes up to a point where he only talks about bronies 24/7, only wears pony themed t-shirts and takes out like 20 pony figures and puts them all over his desk in every class
He is a pretty cool guy (when he doesn't talk about ponies and that happens rarely) but now I really hate the entire brony movement
I'd have a dissenting opinion, but I'd rather not piss into the wind.
the reason why there's a lot of friction betwene the mlp fandom and those who have an unsavory opinion of it is that a very loud percentage of people who identify as 'bronies' make disgusting rape/molesation jokes casually, such as "molestia xDDDD", at the expense of people who've legitimately suffered shit

In all of the flamewars on this topic I've never once seen that mentioned. Maybe that's part of the reason why, but it's definitely not the main one.

well it's one of my observations
Have you tried talking to him about it?
Yup, many times
He doesn't really care about anything that is not related to bronies anymore
How long's he been like this? If it's the pony high then he might be back to (semi) normal in 1- 1 1/2 months tops.
About a year maybe

oftentimes it's part of dealing with troubles in life, a way of escapism. Maybe there's some stress with the family and it hit him hard, coupled with pre-existing mental health issues
You haven't met a hardcore brony until you've seen this one guy at my school. For his birthday, he got pony shirts, toys, an expensive plush, and dvd's. For Christmas, he got pony shirts, toys, an expensive plush, dvd's, and $500. After Christmas he bought several expensive plushes with the money. He created a group called "bronies for the win" in which himself and a few other bronies post their own brony stuff daily. Everything he wears, every item he owns, has been influenced by MLP in some way. His iPod has a pony case and a pony background. His attire is almost only MLP shirts with cheesy stupid puns on them. His entire diction has been affected by the show and its fanbase, incorporating words like "brohoof" and "everypony" into everyday conversation. His greetings usually revolve around him doing something pony related. That's a hardcore brony.
I know a brony who has this:

I must commend him for having the balls to wear it in public all the time.
tl;dr
Hated show, ignored fans, ended up getting really into it, started getting fed up with fans, life lesson learned.
My turn!
First real exposure to MLP was from the DAAS thread. Was a regular in it from October 2011 to September of this year. Since it's a thread on FP, the first exposure was a negative one, and so were the subsequent exposures aafter that. After a while it just became a "he's a brony, probably an idiot" thing, even though I had nothing to back it up with - I just never really thought about it. It took until this June for me to watch the first two episodes, and I didn't really like them.
Jump a month later and I joined a <certain pony chat> to make fun of Bran (I think I just jumped in, said "god damn it bran", and left. After I few times of doing it, I just joined the chat and started talking to people. They were/are cool dudes, so I decided to watch the next episode, and actually liked that one.
and here i am now
So I blame bran.
I wore several time my DJ-PON3 shirt in public, it wasn't that bad...

Unless you're wearing this shirt:

And only when other people don't make a fuss about it by saying "wow you have a pony shirt what a fag"
Yes, I know they're awful, but I'm stuck with them for the rest of high school.

srsly people stop making bad shirts
Testing done by military personnel has proven that pony shirts are nearly undetectable when you don't make a fuss about it.
My shirt was noticed once by a little girl at the restaurant. She started asking questions to her parents as to why am I wearing that shirt. I don't want to know what her parents thought of me.

Why would anyone do this, I mean really. I like the show and stuff and am into the community and all that but I don't go around "professing my love" of the show to goddamn everybody. The most I'd do is a subtle t-shirt or something, something that DOESN'T say brony or have the word on it anywhere.
Also lol at all the debates about what defines someone as a brony or what being one is, it's just a label.
/Hot topic in a nutshell.
I just visited the site and

All the models look like they hate themselves.

I think Hot Topic is just really bad at choosing models.
There's a guy at my school who follows me on deviantart. He wears a fedora and goggles like the kid from digimon. He LOVES to blatantly advertise that he watches mlp at every chance he gets.
Only brony I know irl and he's an absolute tool.
The brownies I've met online are rarely obnoxious and stupid like him though
anyone else notice half of those amazon listed shirts note that they're triple extra large

Is he in 7th grade.
Because he sounds like a 7th grader at my school.
All of them wear hot topic t-shirts and fedoras with greasy hair. I once saw a kid with the "BAZINGA" t-shirt for Big Bang Theory with a fedora on.
They seem to have no clue what "pulling it off" means.

why am i not surprised
A couple of people i know who are now in college went to one of the conventions on the east coast from the Midwestern region of the US
it was actually shocking to me due to the fact that they were well adjusted and pipular
Speaking of bronies, even I despise the ones who buy shit from Hot Topic.
99% of them I see are the guys/girls who are like "Mlp XDDD rainbow dash!!!" that have Hot Topic MLP Shirts and the bracelets that say brony(another Hot Topic item) and all that shit. They are basically attention whores that are sticking to the latest trend.
Some of the people who buy MLP stuff from Hot Topic might actually be cool, but the majority of people who buy MLP stuff from Hot Topic are just shitheads.

Not to mention Rainbow Dash is obviously the worst pony.
snail I will wreck ur face even if you jokingly talk about best/worst thingers
and compvir, hot topic is just unacceptable now
like
I remember it being where the goths hung out, just a wall of black clothing and spiky jewelry and I think I see a thong on the wall back there but I can't walk in to scout it out without at least 20 pounds of chains and jet black dyed hair
now, just
