Having ambient noises inbetween tracks seems unnecessary, it's just going to needlessly waste track space which could be used to add less, but more thought through tracks.

It's a way to string together the tracks. In my opinion, it's better to have the tracks flow together.
How many tracks will this have if transitions are added?
I like the idea of having a couple of the guys making these tracks!
:siren: People who are interested in making ambient tracks to fill in between the songs, give me a PM! :siren:
They should be ambient fillers that are up to 30 seconds long, I will wait a couple of days to see how big the interest is so that I can divide so that every member gets to do his share of ambient tracks between the songs. This is going to have to be made once all the tracks have been sent in, and I'll provide you guys with the tracks you're making the fillers for so that you can make it sound fluid.
This sounds like something pretty neat and I wouldn't mind doing it, but my life is pretty hectic right now with all the stuff I need to get done. If I get some free time in a few weeks I'll see what I can do.
It'd be cool if there were maybe two or three transitional tracks between some of the longer songs, but maybe have a separate thread with all of them in there, and then get people to vote for their favourite tracks, and the tracks that come out top are the ones that get used? Don't say who the tracks are made by in the poll, just get them all together and post them in the OP of another thread and have a poll running alongside it, and people in the Music thread or the Musician's Gig Room get to vote for their favourites.
This way it means that only the best tracks get into the CD, and there isn't just a heap of thirty-second 'samples'.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
fuck if we're going to do the ambient track thing that means i have to get batteries for my sk1
I'm just worried that they're all gonna be fairly samey and won't be distinguishable from one another. Plus there's the fact that on the credits the repeated name Harmonizer would take up about half of the page.
Unless you don't name the tracks, and there's just "Additional tracks by Harmonizer" or "Transition audio by Harmonizer" or something like that.
The tracks definitely won't be samey.
About the titles of the transitions: I think they should either be left untitled or be titled something like "Title (transition)"

Naww everyone gets a chance.
Also, a few things about the transitions that you should keep in mind:
They should flow. If you want to add a little bit to the end and beginning of the two songs you're transitioning between, then go ahead, but make sure to supply us with the .wav.
Try not to exceed a minute in length. If your track is exceptionally good, then it'll fine if it's a few seconds too long.
Don't make anything too busy.
Uh, yeah, that's about it.
I'm going to try to make something for my song now.
I think I might have to send mine again. Feels a bit distorted on a bit of it.
I whipped up a little example of a transition. It isn't exactly the best, but whatever.

The track includes the end of the two songs that are being transitioned together (i just picked two random songs that I made).
Having ambient noises inbetween tracks seems unnecessary, it's just going to needlessly waste track space which could be used to add less, but more thought through tracks.
I think we should at least try and whip something up before putting it down ; if it's well made I'm sure it can heighten the quality a lot.
How many tracks will this have if transitions are added?
46 tracks, although this means that the transitions will have to be really short (I'm thinking like, 10-15 seconds) so that it doesn't get boring or deters too much from the overall sound of the album.

Great, yes the work on these tracks are not going to be right now ; we have to have all the tracks assembled before that, so we can make transitions that work with every track.

A separate thread won't be necessary, it's good to have plenty of activity here imo.
Having people vote on which they think are the best tracks could work, the only problem would be that it's going to be a lot of music and people are then probably only going to bother with listening to the few tracks that are up high on the list. One way to counter this would having people take a sample of their song, around 20-30 seconds. It should give a hint on what to expect on the song. :)

I think naming them -
will do the trick, shows that the track itself isn't that important and that it's just a filler between.

Having them close to a minute for each transition? No way, it's going to take up too much space. Transitions should be short and smooth, not a piece of their own.
10-15 seconds for each transition, that will get us ~4-5 minutes of music that is transition music.
Ok I have an idea, let's try this thing with a few of the tracks being sent in.
(This is an extremely long post so I'm going to wait for someone to post after me before I post the experiment.)

Far too many imo.
Ok, so here are a few tracks posted in the thread that are going to be on the CD.

Those who are interested in making transitions (Harmonizer and Schmoe222, anyone else?), pick two songs you build transitions between. Make it short, 10-15 seconds and try to connect the two songs.

Yeah it might be the case, maybe have one transition between every 4th song? This means we're going to have 4 transitions, and they could be a little longer.
This is what I made.

The song before mine would fade out to the marching sound, then, after the speech part ends, my song starts.
Oh yeah, and this is the song that it will change to:

Here's an idea. How about we have 20 songs on the album, and 4 interludes.
Problem solved. :v:

20 songs, 2 interludes, an intro and an outro.
Yeah, this sounds good.
EDIT: Actually, I think I might have a song that would make a good outro song.
One person per spot on the album dude.
Let other people have a go :3:
In my opinion, we should have a rock/classical track as an outro. It would be a perfect climax for the album.

Well I worked more on the track I posted earlier.
Made it more mainstream (for the best) with the magic of drum & bass.
Add me to the list if you want.
I know you guys will probably hate me for saying this, but you need some songs with vocals. I'm sorry, but listening to constant instrumental stuff is just boring for me. At least have a couple of songs with some sort of Daft Punk-y style "vocals as just another instrument" vibe, rather than just instrumental after instrumental after instrumental... It's just boringgg.

I like instrumental music.
All though, then again I AM a prog fan, so that kind of explains it.
I had vocals on my other track, but was disallowed.

The song i'm working on now has a vocal part.
If there is enough of a need for a demand for more vocal tracks, I can make and submit a vocal track rather than my 13 minutes instrumental.
Hmm, I think we're too far in to change this album to be honest. Don't stop discussing it though, the idea itself is really good and I think it should be implemented to the next album.

I'd totally make a rock song with vocals and everything and submit it, but I've already submitted my song.
Shit, I might just make one anyways.

Well if you're up for it, you could probably start work on it now, and have it perfected by the time the next collaborative CD thread comes around, submit it as soon as it's up and have a finalized, finished and fantastic song on the first page
