MrOwn1, regarding the quality of the music from users, you don't HAVE to take all music. You can always refuse what you think is shit. I love the idea of a record label, however. I'd love to join on and make some dosh on the side.

Make sure to include a sample of your music along with it.

What do you guys think about this? Is it worth submitting?
Please stop disscusing/selling your label idea in tthis thread about free music. You should also figure the legal terms, that 60 percent is a horrible cut and there is a lot more behind it. YOU CAN NOT PUT A PAYPAL BUTTON UP AND SELL MUSIC.
So yeah a thread for this is up now ; http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1056885-Fistface-Records-a-facepunch-record-company
Im still quite a starter when it comes to Metal music, plus I dont have any instruments, so its all MIDI. I don't think my stuff are worthy of being on the album, but here they are anyways... If some people want to have a shot at playing a song, I can give them tabs for all the instruments.
Probably gonna put this song on the album once it's finished.
iron curtain reminds me of a legend of zelda boss music for some reason
I'll take that as a compliment :v:
I'll take that as a compliment :v:
yes. :iia:
MIDI-music can be really cool, so I don't see why it absolutely shouldn't be on the album. :buddy:
MIDI-music can be really cool, so I don't see why it absolutely shouldn't be on the album. :buddy:
Because the writing is not up to the par compared to the other stuff?
Gonna need cover art
Why don't you get someone to render it for you in a DAW in the worst case? It'd still be better than MIDI :buddy:
I prefer the MIDI sound over soundfonts, I don't know why, but I just do.
Gonna need cover art
We'll worry about that once the CD is complete so that we know who are on it, and in the case of back cover ; in what order all the tracks are.
If there only are 24 songs allowed will you only allow 24 people to sign up? Otherwise if there's more people there will be a rush to finish your song so you can get it on the album before the others. And if that's the case having a deadline will be pretty unnecessary.

And if that's the case having a deadline will be pretty unnecessary.
No I will allow as many to sign up, the more the merrier. The deadline is there because if I let this one go on forever then it would take too long for people to finish up their songs. People can rush it if they want, my goal is to have people showcase their music combined with the rest of the facepunch community in an organized way. I'm confident people will take their time to make a good song because people around here are true to their craft and won't whip something up just so that they can get a song on a CD. They will do their best to make a song they can be proud of, and the deadline and having a lot of people join in will spur them to spend the time on the song instead of thinking "meh, I can do it tomorrow". It will help people grow as artists since it pushes them, and let them use their time effectively. Having the first 24 people to respond to the thread and then go with them is a bad idea because a lot of things can happen until the deadline, and people can drop off just a day before deadline and then people who replace will have to rush that song instead. Trust me, I've done this a couple of times now and you get the best effect when you have as many as possible fighting for a spot instead of having a few people in a list who know they don't have to spend the time to make a song to ensure it can be on the CD. [editline]5th February 2011[/editline] Ok that came out a lot more aggresive than I thought, that was not my intention :ohdear:
haha I didn't see it as aggressive. Anyways you make a good point.
Just about to recording a fingerpicked acoustic guitar noodle which I think is quite nice. Maybe it could do with some vocals but I'm not sure, I'm really restricted with the equipment available at the moment and I can't really sing. We'll see, maybe i'll have to do everything at school
Here it is: It's a not so quick demo, took me a few hours due to being very rusty with fingerpicking, and having recording nerves and deciding not to use a click to start with due to wanting the capture "feeling". Then I had a coffee and realised I was being an idiot. Will definitely have more to it, will be longer, possibly some percussion. Recorded using just a Boss Micro BR, really surprised at how it came out! Ignore the title, first things 2 I saw in my room when thinking of a name.

I don't know what your set up is like, but if you have the ability to do so, try and get less noise in the recording. Regardless, it sounds really, really nice. The noise is my only qualm. Anyway, I got my hands on a Virus TI in the studio today. I FUCKING LOVE IT SO MUCH. I want to bring it home with me. Getting some real nice Psy-trance style stuff down. Also played with a really nice Valve Pre-amp, getting some guitar in. I'm just toying with ideas still at this stage, but it's starting to take a direction. Does anyone know of any good drum plugins? I want to get some nice sounding Skazi/Infected Mushroom electronic kits. Also any heavier realistic kits. Like, Metal sounding. I'm working on a kit in Kong at the moment, but it's pretty tedious, and isn't sounding quite how I want it. And I don't have enough money for Battery or Maschine. Anything I could easily Aquire.

As far as drums go, Superior Drummer is good, which is what Devin Townsend uses, there's also EZDrummer, which is pretty much the light version of Superior Drummer, and I really like Battery 3, but that's because I haven't got superior. Unfortunately, they're all pretty expensive
I feared as much. Oh well, I'll see if anyone I know has an old 808 kicking around that I can borrow. [editline]5th February 2011[/editline] Just checked out Superior Drummer. HOLY SHIT. That sounds amazing.
Got a lot of work to get done at the moment so I probably wont be able to produce a track for this; HOWEVER: If someone has any finished tracks that they want mastering, then feel free to PM me and let me know - just bounce down your track in stems: drum stem, bass stem, guitar/synth/other stems and I'll see what I can do. Let it be known that mastering is just a final touch to songs to make them easy to listen to, all glossy and shiny, there wouldn't be any mixing of the levels (unless it really needed doing) and unless you know how to master tracks, then you probably don't know just how much it can improve a track. So yeah, you're more than welcome to send me a PM about it, if you don't like my finished result then it's not a loss at either end, and i'd be sure not to keep/steal your work for obvious reasons
